What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really enjoy when a concept that I am explaining in tutoring finally clicks and I can see the student's confidence grow after each lesson. I believe that learning is a powerful means for young people to not only achieve their goals, but for them to feel empowered in the process, which leads them to proactively seek and build knowledge long-term. I am always happy to hear when a student of mine says that they have built up the courage to interact more in class.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I really make sure that I work with the student's learning style and I focus on making sure that each concept in my lessons is emphasised to be related to all the other concepts I have gone over before. Doing so has made my students feel less intimated with the introduction of a new unit, allowing them to be able to know where to start asking questions and use familiar vocabulary to explain their thought process.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build understanding through familiar concepts and make them feel that this would not be something they could easily forget. After that, the tutor should encourage the student to explain the concept in their own terms, and verbally affirm them throughout.
