The most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to listen to their concerns and also find the gaps in knowledge they have to be able to work with them and focus on helping to learn what they are struggling with to help them through their education. The strengths I have as a tutor are that if I do not know the answer to…

Expanding on what I have written earlier, I think that one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is be prepared, and always willing to learn. I think this requires being a bit humble, and accepting that, even with something that may appear to be far below the tutor's learning, there may still be things that aren't…

I think that curiosity and the satisfaction of that curiosity is the most enjoyable part of learning. Whilst students have different goals for their learning the tutor has an opportunity to impact a life positively. The most important thing is to achieve the student's goal but over and above that an english tutor can engender a love of learning…

There are many important things an english tutor can do for their students however, the greatest thing is being a supportive role model. If the student is able to respect and understand their tutor, there is a high chance that student looks up to that tutor. Therefore, it is important that the tutor can develop a professional relationship with the…

I think the most important thing we can do as tutors is provide confidence. It’s the core of everything. Confidence radiates from knowing the content, trusting yourself with the hard work you’ve put in and reflecting upon past mistakes with a positive mindset to move forward. Whether it be in studying, work or life, confidence is key. My…

I believe that an english tutor should be someone whom the student should feel comfortable asking questions. In this sense, the student should definitely feel no hestitation when asking for clarification if they do not completely understand a concept, something which is not always easy to do in a class. I believe my weaknesses as a tutor would…

I believe an english tutor should give encouragement generously. A tutor should also empower students by teaching them skills that will help them throughout their schooling and beyond. I care about my students. I try to identify their learning style so that I'm better equipped to help them. I encourage my students to work their way through…

Create a non-toxic environment where a student feel comfortable to learn and ask questions. To me I feel this to be the most important factor in learning as feeling comfortable with asking questions and knowing you won't recieve a toxic response is vital in a student excelling in a subject. A tutor must provide enough time, guidance and have patience with their students so that they feel comfortable and ask doubts whenever they required. I consider a good tutor should be able to help the student feel confident in mastering the English Language and be unafraid of speaking up. Inside ReidTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alice focused on subtracting with borrowing and converting fractions to the same denominator, then began two-digit multiplication using the lattice method.

In Year 8, Ethan practised algebraic translations and transformations from the textbook and worked through exam-style questions to build confidence for upcoming assessments.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled definite and indefinite integrals as well as revising calculus with logarithms, applying these skills to practice problems for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion and revision processes emerged as key areas for improvement across multiple year levels.

In Year 4, she did not complete her homework of doing her times tables, which slowed progress in building arithmetic fluency—continued reliance on finger counting was noted even weeks later.

For a senior student preparing for calculus exams, tutors observed that sessions could be better utilized if the student completed their own revision prior, making it difficult to target knowledge gaps efficiently.

In both cases, inconsistent practice outside lessons led to lost momentum or repeated content during valuable session time.

Recent Achievements

One Reid tutor noted a big shift in Elysia, a high school student who used to feel uncertain with complex Maths problems. She now talks herself through each BODMAS step out loud and even underlines the next operation—something she once found confusing.

Jasmine, also in high school, has begun using calculator methods independently for challenging algebra questions, rather than waiting for prompts; last session she chose to tackle harder worksheet sections on her own.

Meanwhile, Claire in primary school is noticeably quicker with her times tables and managed to complete this week's spelling quiz without a single error.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

that Harry would get to the stage where he could do it on his own. I have been very impressed with the results he has been getting and they have far exceeded my expectations so the tutoring has been an outstanding success. I don't want to finish it though just put it on hold while we work on physics for a term. I hope that is ok with you and David.

We have been impressed by Callum's diligent approach to helping Georgina, his wit and time flexibility have made things as easy as possible for her. With warm regards.

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how happy we have been with Sigrid  who has now had 4 sessions with our son, Andreas. She is a very caring and enthusiastic young lady who, over a short period of time, has built a lovely rapport with Andreas. In turn, Andreas feels very comfortable with her and looks forward to the sessions. Sigrid's competence and the commitment she displays are commendable and have resulted in a noticeable improvement in Andreas's confidence and his motivation towards maths. Many thanks for sending her our way.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gawler Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gawler Primary School.
