I think developing a friendly relationship is one of the most important things a tutor can do. By doing this, students feel more confident and happy to truly engage with their tutor, ask any questions they possibly could have, which I think ultimately leads to better learning. I have a real passion for STEM subjects (especially Math methods and…

Resilience after drawbacks. A good tutor should not only provide one or two solutions limited to a single issue, but also help students establish confidence and motivation, and achieve their goals through dedicated efforts. Being able to explain contents in various ways and relate concepts to tangible life experiences; being able to put myself on…

As a tutor, you can\'t approach each student as if they are the same person learning the same subject. Each individual has different weaknesses and strengths. For a tutor to recognise this fact is detrimental to ensuring the tutor can target each student\'s weaknesses effectively instead of wasting time. Having been a student myself, I know time…

One of the most important things for a tutor to do for a student is the appeal to the student's interest in maths. Having a deep interest in maths can greatly make the student benefit. He/she can thereby learn maths better because of the interest in the subject. Patience and resilience are two strengths. Sometimes it may be hard for the student to…

A tutor is someone who encourages the students to get best of them. Moreover, tutor is also responsible for creating moral values in students as many students see their teachers as their ideal or mentor. I don't see teaching just as a formality. I create a fun and friendly environment to teach the students so that they don't get bored. I also…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure the students are able to appreciate the studies they are undertaking. I feel the most important factor in learning is one's own motivation, and from personal experiences, this is linked with how much the subject is appreciated and enjoyed. Thus I recall how many students feel a…

Provide an environment to enjoy what you do so that it provides the motivation for the student to succeed. 3. Act as a coach / mentor for the student rather than as a teacher. 4. Tailor your approach so that it matches the student's learning…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. Whenever there are difficult times, give out the answers is never the way to solve the problem. I'm very patient when teaching my students, I wouldn't mind…

ESTU, Ringwood North

Inside Ringwood NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Anaka worked on simultaneous equations and completed a diagnostic set of Year 9 and 10 maths questions to identify strengths.

In Year 11, Kenton reviewed the theory of depreciation missed in class and applied it through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mohammad was tested on last year's Math, Physics, and Chemistry content before addressing specific gaps in each subject with focused revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics, he over-complicated some exam answers, slowing him down and often providing an incorrect answer. This tendency to expand on theory instead of targeting what the question asked led to lost marks, especially when curriculum changes altered expected response formats.

In Year 11 Chemistry, lack of confidence meant Sakura could not recall material during tests—despite knowing it beforehand.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 writing tasks, Melodie struggled to expand on her initial ideas after planning; as a tutor observed, "she needs to really focus on not just planning but then expanding on those ideas." This left her final pieces brief and underdeveloped.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood North noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions in class, now actively seeks clarification on complex math problems and applies new study strategies like the Pomodoro method to stay organised.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to make frequent calculation errors during quantitative reasoning tasks managed to complete a full test significantly faster and with far fewer mistakes than before—demonstrating much better retention and exam technique.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner showed real independence by self-correcting her own spelling errors and expanding her writing without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
