A tutor can engender a sense of self respect and a more positive attitude in students. They have the ability to increase their confidence in specific education subjects in a very competitive world. I believe tutors are able to lift the self esteem of students and remove that extra stress from the every day school life Being able to relate to the…

I think the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, foster a genuine understanding of the subject, and create a safe space where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. A tutor should support the student’s individual learning style, set achievable goals, and help them develop…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is giving them the ability to problem solve independently, so that s a tutor would not be needed in the future. Giving a student the ability to learn how to study is the perfect opportunity for that student to reach its full potential. Another key factor a tutor can bestow on a student…

A tutor can drastically improve a student's confidence in a subject and in their own ability. I think this is really important as this confidence boost will enable them to approach many aspects of their life with less fear, leading to greater opportunities. Conveying their enthusiasm for the subject. If a teacher is enthusiastic, it makes it a lot easier for the student to learn, and if this can be conveyed with a good teaching style, then the student is much more likely to learn and enjoy it, making it a lot easier to grow in terms of the subject. I believe that I would be able to change the…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to give them encouragement to explore and believe in their own abilities. It is equally important to take the time to discover how the student learns best and make sure that they understand the concept and are not just memorising the answer. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

You could be the reason a student develops a greater sense of purpose or self-esteem at school. You could be the one that sets a student straight on the true and good path to success and fulfilment. You could help give a student confidence to pursue their field of interest with more conviction. You could be the one that puts a student over the…

I think a maths tutor has a lot of power in empowering a student and making them love learning and love the subject. If a tutor can reorient a student's perspective of a certain topic and make the student learn it, it enables the student to engage more with the subject and hopefully increases their passion for learning and education in general…

I believe that as much as it is important to help the child improve and gain confidence, it is also important to build and maintain a maths tutor-student relationship. This enables students who don't tend to be open in class and speak up when they have questions to openly do so during tutoring sessions. This is something I have been able to…

For me, the most important part is to actually avoid just being a tutor. Inside RobinaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia practised telling time to the nearest five minutes and worked on counting money to calculate correct change for real-life scenarios.

Year 10 student James focused on solving quadratic equations, including factorising by completing the square and sketching their graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled integration techniques such as using differentiation for recognition and applied these skills to find definite integrals and areas between curves.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived without class notes, so the session relied on alternative procedures—he promised to bring his materials next time. "He thought they were basically the same," but this made it harder to match school methods, risking confusion before exams.

In Year 10, incomplete practice with factorising meant extra lesson time was needed to regain lost ground before progressing to completing the square.

Another senior student's attention and motivation dipped after recent surgery, making it challenging to maintain focus during problem-solving sessions.

A Year 7 learner's confidence dropped when faced with new calculator functions, slowing progress through scientific notation exercises.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Robina noticed that a Year 9 student who previously hesitated with multi-step word problems now independently sets out each step and completes even the more challenging ones without prompting.

In Year 11, one student who used to struggle with finding gradients from graphs can now quickly and accurately solve these problems using both two-point formulas and graph interpretations, showing real initiative by choosing which method suits the question best.

Another high schooler recently shifted from making repeated calculator errors during scientific notation tasks to consistently getting accurate answers at a much faster pace by lesson's end.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Robina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Robina State High School.
