Aside from teaching the content in an understandable and logical manner, I also think that a tutor should try to inspire a student to become a self-directed and motivated learner. Such a transformation creates the best performing students because they no longer overly rely on the tutelage of others. Rather, they learn to handle a variety of…

Inside RobinaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Will practised telling time and worked on counting money and calculating appropriate change using real-life examples.

In Year 8, Will focused on multiplying and dividing negative numbers as well as applying BODMAS rules with negative integers, reviewing these skills through number line diagrams.

Jacob, a Year 11 Maths Methods student, tackled complex trigonometry problems involving the sine and cosine rule and applied these concepts to worded questions in preparation for his internal assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student preparing for exams often left working out unclear, making it hard to track mistakes or justify solutions—especially in multi-step algebra and statistics tasks.

"He could improve on the formatting of his working out," a tutor noted after reviewing geometry problems.

In Year 12, another student relied heavily on the formula sheet but struggled to identify which formulas applied to unfamiliar exam questions, leading to slow starts and missed marks.

When homework revision was skipped due to assignments, understanding suffered; key strategies were forgotten during tests, leaving the student unsure where to begin challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

A Robina tutor noticed a big shift in Jacob, a senior student, who previously hesitated with normal inverse calculations on his calculator but now confidently rearranges the standard deviation formula to solve unknowns.

In Year 10, Will used to struggle with showing his working for integer problems, often skipping steps—now he lays out each stage clearly and checks his process.

Meanwhile, during a recent primary session, a younger student who was unsure about quarter past and quarter to times can now match them on both analog and digital clocks without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

thanks for your note.  Things appear to be going well with Andrew.  He is a very polite and professional young man and he seems to get on well with Matthew.

I would like to thank you and your team for all the help with preparing Marissa for her Math exam. Gabriella was a wonderful help,  I do nightly recommend her. Thank you for the time spent with her

Tutoring has gotten off to a great start thankyou. Adrian is always on time and his professional & friendly manner has encouraged Erin to have a positive response to being tutored ( she was not keen initially) Erin is enjoying her session with Adrian and I can see her willingness to work with him will increase her confidence in maths in general.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Robina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Silkwood School - Robina Campus.
