Tutors have the opportunity to show and help students to gain confidence in themselves and this will remain with them not only during their schooling years, but as they grow and face many challenges in life. The…

Besides imparting essential knowledge of the subject, I think it is very important that the tutor has to show the student a right direction how to study and absorb knowledge, so that in the future they can study independently in college. In addition, a tutor can use various means to motivate the student to study harder and improve themselves day…

A tutor needs to be able to properly communicate with their student and teach them to solve hard problems instead of solving it for them. Furthermore, I believe that a tutor needs to have empathy for the student as some topics can be hard to understand and require patience to fully grasp. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is give a student confidence. A lot of academic success is really self-belief and believing you can do the problem before you begin. If you do not have confidence i.e., you do not think you can do it. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. That's why I am so passionate about this, since I believe I…

Creating a comfortable environment in which the student can ask any questions without fear of judgement. There's many tutors that I've gone through myself who don't do this and it became a difficult environment to learn in. Actually teach concepts. This especially applies to maths. I believe that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to explain the concept behind a problem more thoroughly than do the problem itself with them. This can be achieved by breaking up a complex problem, which may rely on more than one mathematical concept such as trig and calculus. By splitting up the parts of the…

Every student is unique! There is no single approach to curriculum that will guarantee success for every individual. Local Reviews

Armaan is a fantastic tutor and my son saw results after just one session. He takes the time to ensure his student fully understands what he is saying and is always prepared well in advance of his sessions with a comprehensive workplan. Armaan is patient, a great communicator, punctual and very respectful. Highly recommend.

Inside RochedaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hannah practised converting improper fractions to proper fractions and worked on finding a fraction of a number using visual models.

Year 8 student Ryan focused on solving linear equations and interpreting Cartesian planes, including plotting points on coordinate grids.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Chloe reviewed trigonometry concepts—specifically Pythagoras' theorem and similar triangles—using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hesitated to ask for help or use assignment scaffolds, instead waiting for step-by-step instructions—"he often waited for me to tell him what goes in each section"—which left him uncertain and slowed progress.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 learner relied heavily on memorising past questions rather than applying the discussed rules when facing new fraction problems, making it hard to adapt to unfamiliar wording.

In Year 4, missed multiplication homework has become routine over five weeks; this forgetfulness is causing basic skills like times tables to slip.

Moments of distraction during class sometimes led to answers being written in the wrong boxes despite correct working out.

Recent Achievements

One Rochedale tutor recently noticed a big shift in Ben, a Year 11 student, who now asks targeted questions when unsure—something he rarely did before—and was able to collect relevant data and identify assumptions for his maths assignment without prompting.

Meanwhile, Sas in Year 7 tackled harder worded problems independently on rounding decimals after initially needing help with basic concepts last year.

In a primary session, Orla, who used to be reluctant about new topics, was excited to learn about capacity and confidently completed her worksheets on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes l'm happy at the moment and Sebastian seems to like Kate. She comes and gets straight into it then finishes off with a brief summary of what they have been doing. Which is great. At the moment Sebastian has only had three sessions, so still too early to tell. However there was a day at school when they did some Maths and he said he found it much easier, which is fantastic to hear.

So far so good.  Zachary and Gabriella seem to have a good rapport and I have noticed that Zac is working more confidently.  It's early days though, so time will tell when his grades start coming through. Gabriella is a lovely young lady and we are happy having her as a tutor.

We have been very happy with Lawrence.  He has been patient and on time every time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan North Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rochedale State School.
