Being considerate and understanding. As a student that once struggled to do well with certain subjects, I understand the frustration, and how some people might beat themselves for it. I want to reassure people that progress, regardless of how gradual it is, holds significance. I hope to create a supportive learning culture where my students…

A good tutor requires to re-evaluate the student’s objectives as they progress. It is therefore important not to be afraid of creating a new action plan that will be better adapted to each new situation. Meanwhile, in order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide enough support, such that a student becomes comfortable with the content they have been taught. In my view a tutor is supplemental to what ever is being taught in school, therefore the best thing a tutor can do is give the student enough confidence to be able to tackle questions…

The most important things tutors can do is to engage their students and ensure that their students are putting in their best effort to improve. My strengths are patience and positivity. I've received feedback from parents that I really help their children to enjoy coming to class. I also have strong attention to detail and provide detailed…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor for a student is the progress he/she can provide for the individual and minimize the student's weaknesses and show them their potentials. Tutoring provides an individual and unique learning experience. There are things tutors can learn as well in the process while teaching the students as well. It…

My method of tutoring is through patience and being available to the student. Not every student learns the same and not every student needs a tutor, but the time they start asking several questions for the first time, that is when you need to be available and be patient with every students progress. If the first interaction with a tutor goes bad…

The most important things a tutor can focus on is finding aspects in a student's study which they can be invested and interested in, in turn allowing them to excel in the study they are doing. I have an affinity to forming bonds with my students as I aim to understand what they think of me, their studies and their preferences. I formulate my…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to teach them the content for the student to succeed but also to give them guidance on how to tackle schooling more smoothly and provide them with light into what they are genuinely passionate about. The most important things a tutor can do is to impose a light and easy atmosphere for their students without compromising the knowledge that must be passed on. A tutor should be able to assess a child's progress on certain lessons, and pick up if the child would need for help on certain aspects of lessons even without the child saying so. It is…

Many tutors and teachers I have been taught by treats their students like vessels to pass information to. Inside RookwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ella worked through exam questions and homework on indices, scientific notation, and significant figures, focusing on applying rules to simplify expressions and convert between forms.

Another Year 9 student, Alex, completed a topic test on indices and scientific notation and was assigned worksheets covering algebra, area and perimeter, as well as volume and surface area for extra practice over the break.

For Year 4, Mia reviewed probability using Venn diagrams along with geometry concepts, while also revising addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra and angles often avoided showing full working, especially when rearranging equations—she jumped straight to the answer, which hid calculation slips with negatives.

In Year 10 financial mathematics, one student leaned heavily on calculator statistics mode but struggled when asked to find quartiles manually or check results without digital aids.

For a Year 4 learner practicing division, incomplete memorization of times tables meant repeated hesitations and disrupted progress in multi-step problems.

Across these sessions, skipping careful layout or relying on shortcuts led to confusion during more complex revision tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rookwood recently noticed a Year 8 student who used to avoid multiplication is now confidently reciting both the 10 and 11 times tables from memory, even volunteering to try harder questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who previously struggled with financial mathematics managed to solve straight-line and declining-balance depreciation problems independently after initially needing step-by-step guidance.

In another session, a Year 12 student who was hesitant about networks worked through minimum spanning tree and maximum-flow/minimum-cut theorem questions unaided, choosing the right approach for each scenario on their own initiative.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lidcombe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Homebush West Public School.
