To inspire the student and help him develop a strong joy in whatever topic. And then giving them a road map for them to be able to to be successful in their studying. I think my biggest strengths as a tutor is that I try to really understand the individual that I'm tutoring. Different people require different approaches to perhaps the same…

A tutor is not the people to teach academic content. Tutor can encourage the students to build the better life. Tutor is just not the people to help solving math equation, they can guide to solve the problems that the students face in their life. Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

Improve the students confidence in their own abilities as learners and to instil in them the belief that they can achieve academic success. I think the most important thing that the tutor can do is to understand the student's mental and emotional state and to be flexible around it. The student will be more willing to learn if the tutor adjusts to them accordingly. I can make learning easier with a fun and light environment. I can also make the student give their full attention on the…

Ultimately, a tutor must teach his/her student to be able to rely on themselves and think autonomously when problem solving i.e. not to be afraid of trial and error. I would say my strengths are attributes such as patience with the student (repetition when necessary), determination in getting the message across, and a friendly attitude towards all…

The most important thing I think a tutor can do for a student is to help teach them in a safe, non-judgemental and trust worthy environment. If the student feels comfortable in the environment, they are more willing to open their minds and be more willing to learn whereas if they felt uncomfortable they would be more closed off and fearful. Not…

The most important thing that I can do for a student is to help them achieve their goals, whether it be getting better grades, building confidence or developing interest in a subject. Obviously all students that seek out tutoring need help but it does not necessarily about achieving an A but at the end of the day, to reach their goals. Therefore,…

Being patient with the student when introducing new ideas. It can be difficult to grasp new ideas when first introduced, and it is vital to the student's learning that they understand and are confident with the basic concepts before building on these concepts. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

Learn with the student. I am striving to be a better person each day, with it, comes humility. I believe that if you come to the student appearing human and able to make mistakes (as I am not a robot), the student will understand that I am not intimidating nor a machine, but rather human just like they are. Inside SandringhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student covered solving for missing values in trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent) and tackled real-world word problems involving trigonometry.

In Year 11 Chemistry, work focused on balancing chemical equations and calculating limiting reagents and unknown moles.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student reviewed acids and bases with an emphasis on titrations, using step-by-step practice to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

A recurring challenge in Year 10–11 mathematics has been incomplete revision between sessions; as one tutor put it, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week." This cycle delays progress and leaves less time for new material before exams.

In Year 7 algebra, skipping written steps—especially with cross multiplication—meant errors crept in but weren't visible for correction.

For a Year 3 English task, homework was often misplaced or left unfinished, with work scattered across loose pages instead of kept in the provided booklet, making review and improvement harder.

Recent Achievements

One Sandringham tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled to stay focused now working through chemistry calculations—like titration and molar mass—on her own, even explaining her steps aloud without prompting.

A Year 8 boy, who used to rush homework with errors, surprised his tutor by redoing a NAPLAN quiz carefully and getting it all correct after missing questions the week before.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Max—who often hesitated with spelling tests—spelled out all ten "-ai" and "-ay" words correctly for the first time, finishing the list independently and putting schoolwork first.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Scots College, Brighton Preparatory School.
