Chemistry Tutor Carseldine, QLD
I believe a chemistry tutor shouldn't just focus on helping out their students during sessions. Tutors should be focused on making plans before their sessions, learning from their students' strengths and weaknesses. They should be passionate about their students' grades as much as their own. My strengths as a tutor include: - Taking notes of…

Chemistry Tutor Woody Point, QLD
It all comes back to confidence for me, when a student is confident in a subject again it can then translate into other areas of academia and even life. I firmly believe all students are capable of extraordinary feats and the support I show for my students allows for them to start believing that as well. My principal strength in tutoring is my…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student is not only assist them with their learning, but create a positive and encouraging environment as people work best when they believe in themselves. I also believe it is important to incorporate fun activities as people are more likely to achieve higher grades in subjects they find…

Chemistry Tutor Zillmere, QLD
The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is to listen to the student, as well as teaching. Encouraging the student to provide their input on a topic without having any pretentious predelection will allow the student to become more confident in their learning. I have the ability to gage the student's difficulty and work with them from that…

I believe the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to listen. I believe listening is very important since if you don't listen to your student, or get them to explain concepts for themselves, you won't be able to deduce which areas to focus on. One of my weaknesses as a tutor would have to be that if my student is having…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to inspire and encourage them to take charge in their learning and step outside their comfortable zones to learn new things and expand their horizons. This encourages students to become independent lifelong learners and creates a positive attitude towards learning. My strengths as…

Chemistry Tutor Kedron, QLD
The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there to support them in their wins and losses. They need to be available to answer their questions, no matter how silly. My strengths lie in my method of explaining things. Even though its a very minor thing, I've found in my own teachers that even if they are the best in the world, if they…

A comfortable environment that is encouraging and more engaging than studying alone can. Tutors are an extra resource students can invest in for their education, which makes it important that the environment they provide to the students allow for failures and not discourage students from studying due to their past grades. Chemistry Tutor Nundah, QLD
To recognise the student's limits, and to help them reach beyond them. A tutor should set realistic goals for students to help them stay motivated and to make progress in their learning, however, they should also encourage students to achieve higher through effective communication and tutoring support. As the student's needs should be a tutor's…

Inside ShorncliffeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Bella worked on mental maths and algebraic thinking, focusing on developing confidence with number patterns.

Year 11 Katie explored the differences between mechanical and non-mechanical waves and investigated real-world applications of wave amplitude using practical examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Daniel tackled advanced physics concepts, including Faraday's and Lenz's laws as well as conservation of energy in electromagnetic induction, with time spent practicing relevant formulae for assessment tasks.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Physics, one student relied heavily on the formula sheet but struggled to identify which equation matched the question, slowing their problem-solving. As noted: "Needs to check fundamentals of physics understanding eg. gravity."

In a Year 12 assessment, submitting only a partial draft limited feedback opportunities and left analysis unfinished.

A Year 8 Maths learner avoided writing out full working, which led to repeated decimal placement errors in multiplication—when prompted to show steps, they could pinpoint mistakes themselves.

Meanwhile, another student's concentration drifted after an exam day, leaving questions half-completed and feedback unaddressed for later sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Shorncliffe noticed that one high school student, who used to hesitate and guess when stuck, now actively asks clarifying questions and uses logical reasoning to work out solutions—something she hadn't done before.

Another secondary student made a clear shift by preparing specific questions before sessions and using her formula sheet independently during revision, showing new initiative with exam strategies.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously mixed up equivalent fractions confidently explained why 50/100 equals 1/2 during their session, then completed all ten fraction problems without errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Things are going well. Chris is doing a very good job. Since the tutoring sessions, my daughter seems to be more positive and has stated that Chris is explaining the work well, which makes it easier to understand. I am confident that this was the right decision and can't wait to see the results.

I would like to commend Mandy on her fantastic work with Jack.  She has been so patient and we could not have asked for a better match with our son. Their hard work has paid off as we have received several comments from Jack's  teacher telling us how well he is going in maths and that there has been an improvement.

The experience has been great and the results speak for them self. My son gained confidence as a result of the tutoring and i would gladly recommend you to my friends and family. The tutor was very pleasant to work with and very approachable.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandgate Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Patrick's College.
