Engineering Studies Tutor Elermore Vale, NSW
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the student and their mindset towards school and schoolwork. If you understand a student, you can adapt your tutoring to give them the most support for them to achieve what they desire. I am encouraging and supportive. I know the content (just have dig through my brain for it). Most…

In all the years I have had tutoring of my children I have never received a progress report so this is great to see. Wil felt very comfortable with Danielle.

Inside ShortlandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Ruby focused on integration techniques involving logarithms and exponentials, and practised applying the trapezoidal rule to estimate areas under curves.

Year 9 student Sebastian worked through exam questions covering quadratic equations as well as similarity and probability, revisiting key examples from recent assessments.

For Christian in Year 8, sessions included targeted practice with area and volume problems using diagrams, along with statistics worksheets to consolidate understanding before his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, a student struggled to identify how to start more complex area and perimeter questions; as one tutor noted, "he needed prompting to get started with the questions."

In Year 11, a student expressed that time pressure during exams led to rushing and minor errors in quadratics.

Another Year 12 student avoided writing full working for algebraic proofs, making it difficult to spot calculation slips until the end.

When tackling parametric equations in senior years, incomplete homework on set revision tasks meant gaps persisted before assessments—extra practice was set but not always completed before tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Shortland noticed Ruby, a high school student, hit a milestone after struggling with integration; she can now confidently rewrite equations for integration and recently earned a 78 in her maths report—her best yet.

Another secondary student who used to make small mistakes during tests is now independently spotting and correcting his own errors without prompting.

Meanwhile, Sebastian (Year 7) had found graphing daunting at first, but last session he tackled harder end-of-chapter questions much faster than before and even reached the enrichment problem, showing clear growth in both speed and willingness to try challenges.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Gagan is a wonderful tutor and I would be very happy with her coming back next year.

Both Natalia and Kiara are very happy with Abigail and things are starting off really great.

Mina is a very helpful teacher who has allowed me to regain confidence. There are times when I do get stuck on some topics, but Mina will know when I need help and she will focus on that topic a bit more. She gives me a wide range of different questions which prepare me for my tests. Her work ethic is an extra bonus which allows me to feel more motivated about maths and makes me feel more confident in harder areas. I recommend Mina to anyone who is looking for a kind and positive teacher who builds up confidence and knowledge. Mina is a hard worker and doesn't put her students down and encourages them even when they aren't understanding the topic.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wallsend Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Awabakal Environmental Education Centre.
