The most important thing that a tutor can do is figure out the strengths and weakness of the student and give the maximum effort in weakness to improve that and polish the strenghts. My strengths are figuring out how a student learns. There are may different styles that a person takes when learning and each student is unique and…

The most important thing a tutor can do is improve the confidence of the student. The most important thing to have when walking into an exam is confidence. With great confidence comes greater problem solving skills, and greater creativity. Hence, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student more comfortable and confident…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Moreover, a tutor should guide their students in a manner in which they can focus on key areas of improvement and then work on realistic goals, which…

I believe that a tutor is not merely someone who helps students to better understand certain materials taught at school. A tutor should be a role model both in their character and willingness to learn. A tutor should plant motivation and confidence in their students so that they believe that they can succeed in whatever areas they're lacking at,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listening to them to truly understand what their needs and goals are. I also think it is important for a tutor to establish a link with the student, to make the lesson less "formal" and more enjoyable for the student as he/she would learn better if the environment is less stressful. As I am…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to always be their pillar of support and let them know that it’s alright to be wrong or not understand and that’s it’s all part of the learning process. I believe a good tutor would be encouraging and promote class participation and class discussion where the students…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is act as a motivation for them to achieve their personal best. Although raising marks is the main objective for tutors, they must be able to interact with the students and find their weak points and there is a limit to what they can teach. They must act as a pillar that can support their…

I believe that a tutor's primary responsibility is to assist students in understanding and accepting new ideas and concepts through well-planned classes and by responding to any queries they may have. It's crucial to listen to the kids since it allows you to get to know them better and identify any misconceptions they may have. First off, math is…

The bare minimum a tutor should do is to aid a student in their academic journey, however the optimal result would be for tutors to create an enjoyable learning experience for the student. Specifically in mathematics, I believe I have the creativity to come up with multiple approaches to a certain problem. Thinking outside of the box, I could show…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is be a source of motivation and encouragement, to help boost the student's confidence. Oftentimes the issue with students who seek tutoring is their inability to recognise their potential rather than their lack of knowledge, and tutors can assist them in accessing this potential. -Patience -…

A tutor can not only help the students stay motivated but they can also help the students build great study habits that will help them for a lifetime. Their influence can never stop and that's really important. Students, especially the ones who struggle a lot need a motivator to stay on top of their goals without giving up. That's something a…

Inside St PetersTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Scarlett practised breaking up four- and six-digit numbers in non-standard ways to build place value understanding, and explored how rearranging digits changes number size.

Year 11 student Sam worked through algebra basics, graphing linear equations, and used the law of cosines to solve trigonometry problems involving similar triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ella focused on quadratic equations—factoring and solving—and applied her knowledge to real-world contexts like calculating tax and depreciation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student expressed feeling overwhelmed by multi-step word problems, often unsure how to break them down; as one tutor noted, "she stated that she is often overwhelmed at all the information given to her."

In Year 10, missing key details in finance and algebra questions led to incomplete answers—skipped questions on a practice test remained unattempted until prompted.

For Year 11, not reviewing all test topics resulted in missed easy marks in rates and ratios, simply because those areas were set aside.

When reading exam questions too quickly in senior years, students lost points from overlooked instructions or misapplied formulas.

Recent Achievements

In Year 11, Kiera had struggled to confidently set up algebraic equations, but she filled out an entire interest table on her own after just a bit of prompting—she even tackled several practice test questions she'd previously avoided and got half of them right without guessing.

Raphael (Year 7) used to need help for every step with algorithms; now he completes most questions solo and explains his reasoning clearly when asked.

Meanwhile, Scarlett in Year 3 has started asking how to spell unfamiliar words instead of skipping them, showing new initiative during writing tasks.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I would just like to say how thrilled we are with Aaron, he is amazing. Tyler loves working with him and actual looks forward to doing maths which I never thought would happen. So once again thank you for such a wonderful service with great tutors.

Minyu likes Nima and has already gained mastery and confidence with some of the concepts she was struggling with so from my point of view things are going very well.

El Abed has been a brilliant tutor & I am impressed he managed to work so well with Faith when others have been unable to kept her focused. I wanted to highly recommend Abed as a tutor, I am disappointed my daughter is not interested Maths to improve further.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Peters / Sydenham Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peters Public School.
