The tutor must help the student improve in the subject they are teaching. This involves explaining things clearly so the student can understand and are thus enabled to tackle such questions and tasks on their own in the future. I also believe that the tutor must make the student feel comfortable around them. If it is possible to do without…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence in a student's learning. I think having a positive relationship with the student is really important, in order to ensure there is mutual trust and understanding between student and tutor. The student understands that you want the best for them and in turn will try their best with you. In order to establish this, it is important to understand the pupil's likes, dislikes,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop their confidence and skills to be able to problem solve independently. That requires building a students skills to not only understand the techniques which can be used but also how to most effectively apply them. This is particularly important as it enables students to become…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and remember that everyone learns at their own pace, in their own way. Tutors can provide practice papers, positive feedback, ways of improving to the student. The aim is to not make the student feel as if they are unable to achieve the goal, but to allow them to…

I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. This allows them to enjoy their time at school and develop positive learning habits. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

Allow the student to overcome challenges on their own. Motivation and confidence are two key elements of student success, if I can support them in achieving a sense of self-efficacy regarding these elements, they are bound to see improvement. Students often know where they fall short in their work, they just need motivation to improve those areas. Once they know that they can achieve this themselves,…

The most important things I can provided to the student are an approachable, enriching learning environment. An enriching learning environment is like a petri-dish full of nutrients. Inside StrathfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob focused on advanced algebra, tackling worded problems ahead of class pace in maths and developing time-pressured writing and editing skills in English, including analysing text structure.

For Year 9, Amanda worked intensively on exam revision, targeting earlier-term maths topics for reinforcement and creating essays in English as part of her exam preparation.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Lily reviewed key numeracy concepts for NAPLAN by practising division and multiplication questions using sample test materials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, Jacob struggled to translate strong verbal analysis into structured writing—his ability to discuss as proof of him being able to correctly form reasoning, however his confidence when it comes to writing heavily restricts this reasoning.

In mathematics (Year 8), a reluctance to consistently write working led to errors in algebra and worded problems; he often defaulted to solving mentally, which became overwhelming on harder questions.

For HSC Biology, one student included unnecessary details in short answers and missed key terminology, making it difficult for them to link concepts under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Strathfield recently saw Jacob, a Year 8 student, move from avoiding written working-out to actively using it—now he tackles multi-step algebra and quadratic questions much faster than before.

In senior science, Luke showed new initiative by completing practice exam papers on his own without prompting, something he hesitated to do earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, younger student Burla made a noticeable shift in problem-solving: after initially needing lots of help with time word questions, she now reads them independently and selects the correct operation herself before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Sabina College, Santa Maria del Monte.
