Tutors help foreground the development of confidence in what lies within the mind of students that enhances their ability to express thoughts and opinion essential for adult life. A tutor also becomes a trustee of the student, whom insecurities are revealed, and therefore solutions can be found based on the bond created between the two. The…

I think fostering curiosity and confidence are the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student. Technical knowledge is obviously extremely important, however, I think building solid study foundations is something a student will carry with them for the rest of their lives. As a current university student, I understand the frustration…

The most important thing is bringing the the learning down to the students level. I believe by doing this not only makes learning relatable and accessible, but also make the whole experience fun and enjoyable. My strengths include being able to listen to what the student says. If they are having difficult over a particular concept, then I would go…

I think the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is listen to what they don’t understand and coming up with different ways that relate to that child that will help them to understand the question, and any other future questions based on the same problem. I am patient and understanding allowing me to have multiple approaches to…

I believe the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to approach questions themselves as I believe it improves their thinking process and teaches them problem-solving skills, allowing for independence and further improvement. Most importantly, creating a positive environment where they feel safe and…

In order for the relationship between and student and tutor to bloom, the tutor needs to be a good listener, patient, honest, flexible, confident and willing to collaborate. I believe I am capable of all these items, and more. I believe I am patient, and have a creative way of teaching. I am enthusiastic in all aspects of life, and tutoring is no…

The most important thing for a maths tutor is to be able to make the student want to learn the material on their own. If you instill a passion for mathematics within the student, it will cause them to grow on their own. Generally, I am pretty good at determining where the gap in the students understand lies, whether it's in the foundations of what…

To be patient, it can be hard to be patient when it is easy for us as adults as we know the topic, but patience is so important to remember that they are learning, just as we did one day. I am extroverted, I love people and love to socialise, so I will make my tutoring lesson fun for the…

Local Reviews

Beatrice has been an incredible influence on my daughter. Beatrice is very patient and has a fantastic way of explaining difficult Physics concepts. Year 12 went from being very stressful to very manageable thanks to the tutoring from Beatrice. The best part is all the tips and tricks for the HSC. Thank you Beatrice - we couldn't be happier with a physics tutor. You are amazing.

Inside SunshineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Claudia practiced converting between decimals and fractions and reviewed 24-hour time, while Year 6 student Nina focused on multiplying and adding fractions as well as reviewing times tables through oral recall.

In Year 8, Leonardo worked on finding the perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, and squares using given formulas, then applied these skills to composite shapes for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student did not complete set homework, so time in-session was spent re-covering missed work rather than progressing to new content; as the tutor noted, "failure to complete the set homework just sets her progress back by delaying time."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's workbook layout became messy during fraction calculations—"she should purposely write slower when completing her homework"—which made it harder to check steps and spot small errors.

In creative writing for Year 7 English, difficulty transferring ideas from speech to paper left written work sparse and hard to review later.

Recent Achievements

One Sunshine tutor observed a Year 8 student who had previously hesitated to tackle multi-step algebra problems begin choosing her own strategies and working through linear equations without prompting, showing new independence compared to earlier sessions.

Another recent high school win involved a Year 10 student who used to quietly guess when unsure about fractions but now actively asks for clarification and self-corrects mistakes as she works, reflecting a real shift in approach.

In primary, one Year 4 learner who struggled with reading analogue clocks is now confidently stating even tricky times like "6:47" aloud without hesitation.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Gagan is a wonderful tutor and I would be very happy with her coming back next year.

Both Natalia and Kiara are very happy with Abigail and things are starting off really great.

Mina is a very helpful teacher who has allowed me to regain confidence. There are times when I do get stuck on some topics, but Mina will know when I need help and she will focus on that topic a bit more. She gives me a wide range of different questions which prepare me for my tests. Her work ethic is an extra bonus which allows me to feel more motivated about maths and makes me feel more confident in harder areas. I recommend Mina to anyone who is looking for a kind and positive teacher who builds up confidence and knowledge. Mina is a hard worker and doesn't put her students down and encourages them even when they aren't understanding the topic.
