What a tutor should and need to do are guiding a child to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses with all of the power invested in ourselves; reminding and figuring out what their barriers are to success (such as are they afraid of they can't pass? or they are not receiving any support from their beloved ones?). In my power, I'd do…

I think a tutor should help build on students’ current thought processes and methods through asking them how they’d first approach a challenging question and their next steps using the given information. This is because when people are stressed they resort to what they know best. As such, in test conditions students will be less likely to…

To recognise that no two students are the same and that a process like learning needs to be personalised so that the best results are achieved. This personalisation also means that its much more likely for the student to open up and fully engage in the process of assisted learning as they can feel that the session is catered just towards their…

The most important thing is to listen and understand your students. Once you understand what they want and need, and how they work, you can develop teaching and learning methods that can push them to their best selves. Communication is also vital in a tutor-student dynamic. I tend to observe people a lot, so it’s easy for me to figure out their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only be able to teach them the material, but to also be able to mentor them. By mentoring, I mean having a close, trusting relationship with your student in order to help them improve their skills on a daily basis. The mentoring relationship allows learning to go beyond…

Listen to the students and understand what the actual issue is. More often than not it's not the concept itself but how the student is processing the concept, and if you don't see that you'll only be able to help them understand through repetition. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is approaching the student as the centre. The best thing a tutor can do is to listen carefully and empathise with their students. I believe that a tutor is not there to chastise and 'drill' concepts into a student's mind. This ensures that students feel comfortable to learn and improve so that they can approach their mistakes not with self-doubt and a…

Local Reviews

It was very easy to set up the tutoring sessions. There are regular check ins with the client to check how well the tutoring is going, and lots of helpful information regularly provided on how to get the best from the tutoring. Our tutor is very well organised, has been very supportive of our daughter's learning and needs, and has gone the extra mile to ensure she is understanding the concepts. Very pleased, and highly recommend this organisation for tutoring.
Tina, Sunshine West

Inside Sunshine WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Vincent worked through mixed numbers, area, volume, percentages, ratios and algebra in maths homework, while also focusing on English reading comprehension and spoken communication.

Year 9 student Daniel tackled simultaneous equations with two variables using graphing techniques, explored linear inequalities and gradients of parallel and perpendicular lines.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Yifan reviewed hydrocarbon naming and properties for an organic chemistry SAC, including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and polymers as well as applying equations with moles and Avogadro's number.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student arrived without class notes or required materials, making it difficult to address gaps in geometry and algebra; as one tutor noted, "he struggled to recall perimeter formulae without reference sheets."

In VCE Chemistry, a senior student repeatedly forgot to bring completed practice SACs and revision exercises, which limited their ability to apply feedback on ionic equations.

During an English session with a Year 10 student, incomplete homework drafts meant essay structure feedback could not be implemented fully.

Each moment saw valuable lesson time diverted toward reconstructing missed work rather than progressing with new skills.

Recent Achievements

A Sunshine West tutor noticed one Year 9 student who used to quietly muddle through maths now openly asks for help when stuck, and has started explaining their working without prompting.

In a recent high school chemistry session, another student who struggled with mole equations last term confidently balanced chemical equations on their own this week.

Meanwhile, a primary learner who was previously hesitant about reading aloud finished an entire page independently and tackled new words by sounding them out before asking for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very pleased with the progress of the tutorials with Aprinder. Dean is engaging really well with him and already seems more confident.  We hope his apparent progress will be reflected in both a more positive attitude toward maths that is enduring and also in his maths results at school.

Nathan is great and Katelyn is really happy. At first she wasn't very keen on having a tutor but she is not complaining at all anymore.  We are off to a great start and I feel positive.

Working with you guys was very fun and exciting. I got to learn a lot from it. Getting to know and meeting different students built up my communication and teaching skills. My biggest achievement was teaching a student who hated maths and making them love it. it was a time of hardship, but I never gave up . The student always felt that she couldn't do well and that she will always hate maths. I decided to challenge myself that no matter what I will surely make this student reach the top level. Slowly the effort rose and I was proud of myself that I was capable of teaching my students to love maths and always never lose hope. Ezymath tutoring was one thing I wanted to work with because it provided resources, flexible timings and balanced schedule. I  never had any problems with rescheduling as you guys were flexible. Tutoring has made me experience and reveal my inner most teaching skills and communication skills. I can approach a problem from the student's perspective, which helps in identifying faults in understanding. Students gradually gained confidence over months and I was finally confident that they would be ready for any tough problems. I enjoyed working with you and I will recommend you to fellow tutors and prospective clients.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's School.
