The most important things for a tutor are to be responsive/communicative and adaptable, because different people learn differently and tutoring is done to make sure that the student understands. I am familiar with the curriculum, as I went through the same curriculum (Band 5 for Advanced Maths and E3 for Maths Ext…

Being there for a student when they are facing difficulty in education or even in their life. Being there to listen to with open ears about what is going inside them. Telling them to keep their heads-up during rough times. Inspire and motivate them through the learning process. I am very passionate when it comes to Science and Math. When…

In my opinion the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them reach their goals. Whether that may be to help them catch up in certain subjects, to reach for top marks for their desired high school or university or in need of motivation to study in creating habits. I believe that the most important thing will be for the tutor…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be present, understanding and supportive. A tutor should be someone a student can rely on for academic help as well as encouragement and motivation. By providing the resources, teaching, and guidance, a tutor should be able to empower their student and help them to feel confident…

Listen. I think it's important to understand the current knowledge a student has and to be aware of what their goals are. I think each student has a different learning style. By listening I know how best to tutor in a way that is specific and beneficial for them. I am a good communicator and excellent at listening to the needs of my students. I am…

I believe that a tutor should not just provide answers to a problem, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to think to solve problems. This is why teaching maths or physics should go beyond drilling procedures, formulas and theorems into a student's head - tutors should encourage students to develop a wholesome…

Alongside making sure the student understands the content of the course, I also believe relieving the work-related stresses a student has is important. Making sure the student is content in an open, calm work environment whilst also trying to instill a healthy work ethic is important. I believe being a personable, patient, and kind tutor who has…

The teacher's professionalism, encouragement, and patience. Teenagers cannot focus on study for a long time so tutor has to be fun and patient to explain the knowledge and catch their attention. Learning can be spilt into 3 parts. First being simply understanding the content without worrying about exams. Second being revising and coming up questions possible from the content and getting a deeper understanding. Third is looking at the exam questions and how to form the answer to get maximum marks. I am aware of different styles of learning…

I think a tutor has to be such kind of person who can unwillingly be able to establish himself/ herself as a role model to follow which will guarantee the success of the the student in the future. Building confidence is the most important thing a tutor can possibly do for a student. It's very important for a tutor to listen a student's worry points and problems and guide him accordingly to overcome them without breaking his confidence. To get them engaged and interested in a subject or topic. Developing a close relationship with students is essential in creating trust with a student. This allows a student to listen and follow your guidance. As a tutor, the most important thing to do is ensure the student is confident with their taught content. This is achieved initially by committing to your students work along-side them. Following…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. There are many important things that a tutor can do for a student, one of which is regardless of our personal feelings, it is important that we should work with each of our student to ensure their success. Tiffany is currently tutoring my son and daughter. The process of setting up the sessions was quick and efficient. She has always been on time, committed and focused during the sessions. The children have found her to be friendly and approachable and have really found the three lessons so far to be extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend EzyMaths.

Inside SydenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emma worked through angle properties for parallel lines and used diagrams to explore alternate, corresponding, and cointerior angles.

In Year 9, Alex focused on trigonometric ratios and their applications, as well as reinforcing index laws with practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas tackled standard differentiation techniques including the quotient rule, applying these skills to textbook exercises and real exam questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student relied on entering chemical equations straight into the calculator rather than writing them out—this habit led to repeated errors in balancing equations and missed marks.

For a Year 9 Maths student, index laws were an ongoing challenge; as a tutor noted, "he tended to skip showing working when applying index rules," making it hard to catch mistakes early.

Meanwhile, a senior student's proof-writing in Maths lacked clear formatting, so their logical steps weren't always obvious. In these moments, accuracy suffered and corrections took longer than needed.

Recent Achievements

One Sydenham tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to freeze when tackling simultaneous equations; now, she's able to set up the equations and choose between substitution or elimination without prompting.

In another session, a Year 11 student who struggled with linking rates to differential equations is finally making those connections on his own, confidently talking through each step.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 6 recently began identifying like terms independently and multiplying coefficients—last term he'd wait for hints before trying. Last week, he asked the tutor for extra practice problems on fractions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Peters / Sydenham Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Tempe High School.
