The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to connect with them so that students can feel free to tell them whether they understand a particular topic or not. This helps the tutor to know what exact topics to help the students. My strengths as a tutor would be ability to connect with the students at their level and also my aim…

The most important thing as a tutor is to be there for your student, not only academically but mentally and emotionally as well. I want my students to feel like they can ask me for advice on subjects that may not pertain to their education, but I want them to also feel like they can come to me for help when it comes to their academics as well.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to give his/her students the confidence to independently tackle any task or question that they encounter in their education careers. I think this is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student because in my experience, I have come to realise that students can sometimes know the content…

To be able to mould and modify a lesson plan in accordance to what the student's need. Being compassionate and understanding their struggles and what they lack, going that little extra mile to help them push for them to get what they want with their grades. I am highly adaptable and am always thinking outside the box. I have a natural knack for…

The most important thing a tutor can teach their student is to be able to sucessfully tackle a subject by themselves. I believe this is achieved by providing the student with a strong base on the subject and adapting them to gradually think independently. However I also believe this the hardest thing to learn and it can also take many years for a…

Make them feel confident and comfortable to at least ask questions when they don’t understand something. I feel that quite often when we don’t understand something in school we stay quiet and don’t say anything and assume we will just be able ti figure it out on our own but usually that doesn’t work. Having the confidence to ask questions…

Firstly, I think tutors should be friendly toward students and they should try students to be comfortable around them. The students will ask all the questions they do not understand only if they feel comfortable around their tutors. Secondly, tutors need to be patient with students and explain every questions students can ask for. Lastly, tutors…

I think being positive and encouraging is the best thing a tutor can do. With previous students I have tutored, I found that many of them lacked the confidence in themselves, making them less interested in the work and anxious about assessments. A tutor needs to be able to properly communicate with their student and teach them to solve hard problems instead of solving it for them. Inside Tanah MerahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Xavier focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and practiced key fraction skills, including addition and subtraction with mixed numbers.

For Year 10, Zara revised index laws and factorisation by working through her previous quiz results and extra targeted questions.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, Lachlan prepared for an upcoming assessment by reviewing statistics concepts such as mean, median, mode, and range using sample assignment exercises.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related habits emerged across different year levels.

A Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework or begin their maths assignment, with notes stating, "needs to prioritize his maths assignment more, because he has not made any attempts to the assignment yet."

In Year 7 algebra sessions, a reluctance to show working steps led to repeated sign errors—"he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

For a Year 11 statistics task, incomplete communication with the teacher meant key concepts like Measures of Spread were left unclear and unaddressed before deadlines.

Recent Achievements

One Tanah Merah tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with algebra now finishing equations more efficiently and explaining her reasoning out loud, which marks a real shift from just guessing.

In Year 7, another student who previously rushed through problem-solving is now showing each step of his working and talking through the process—he even asked for harder questions after acing a quiz on percentages.

Meanwhile, in primary, two students went from waiting for hints to wanting to complete maths sums independently before asking the tutor to check their work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Hyperdome Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loganholme State School.
