I think it is extremely important that the tutor is able to be flexible and encourage the student without being diminishing their love of the subject or making them feel bad about any questions they might have. It is very important to nurture the child's learning and development and give them the skills they need to decipher all manner of…

Help them to gain a certain level of self confidence I am a great listener and communicator, which are vital skills when tutoring as not every student is the same, and therefore require different method. It is imperative that a tutor can understand how most effectively a student can be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help highlight the strengths already there through building confidence and positive reinforcement. My strengths would undoubtedly be my ability to teach in a creative and engaging way whilst ensuring that my students stay motivated and always have goals that they want to achieve. I think my…

I believe it is very important for a tutor to provide consistent support for a student, to help them gain confidence and understanding in their studies. It is also important for tutors to be up to date in the latest information and syllabus to ensure the best service for the student. I believe my patience and understanding, combined with my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what they need and make sure to push them only to their highest point of productivity. Every student has different goals and learns in a different way so it is the responsibility of the tutor to cater to those needs. I am able to foster and maintain strong connections with…

A tutor plays a crucial role in a student's academic and personal development. Tutors help students understand complex topics by breaking them down into simpler, more manageable concepts. They provide clarity and explanations tailored to the student's level of understanding. Tutors also offer emotional and academic support, boosting a student's…

The most important things a tutor can do for their student is explain things to them in ways they will understand and consider their students' understanding of other related concepts. Through these, tutors can enable students to improve academically. As a tutor, my strengths involve finding a teaching style that is most efficient for the…

I think it's a question of what a tutor can BE rather than do. I found in my experience that I always responded to teachers who were enthusiastic and portrayed a genuine care for the learning of the student. In a metaphorical sense, the tutor must think like a student in an empathetic way rather than merely be a one way stream of instruction. If a…

Finding out whether a student is a visual, auditory or kinesthetic learner is important. By discovering how the student learns best, I believe he will be able to reach his true potential. To do this, a tutor must be malleable in his teaching methods and communication. Furthermore, it is crucial that the tutor and student create a bond that reaches…

Inside Taren PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Diyian focused on multiplication, long division, and working with fractions and decimals.

For Year 8, Hayley tackled trigonometry by solving problems involving sine, cosine, and tangent as well as applying these functions to worded scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jay revised balancing chemical equations and calculated moles and molar mass in chemistry using worked examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to keep up with homework and often did not review content between lessons, leading to repeated time spent re-covering algebra basics. As one tutor noted, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week."

In Year 11, a student avoided working on unfamiliar HSC topics independently and only practiced material already covered in lessons, leaving gaps before exams.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner regularly forgot class materials and left written work incomplete or messy during subtraction tasks, making it hard to spot calculation errors until much later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Taren Point noticed that a Year 11 student, after weeks of hesitating to ask questions, now openly seeks clarification when tackling tough HSC revision tasks—she even started making her own topic notes to check formulas.

In Year 10 chemistry, one student finally cracked titration calculations independently after struggling with the steps for several sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once guessed at spelling now takes time to sound out words and self-corrects without prompting; last session he caught two mistakes on his own before moving on.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tuition sessions are going on really well as my son has had considerable improvements in Maths with better grades ( jumped from C to A) and much better conceptual understanding of several difficult topics. He finds Ben a gentle and consistent tutor who has kept a wonderful rapport with him. They have also covered some topics in English which helped quite a bit. I would certainly recommend Benjamin as a very helpful and effective tutor for teenagers.

Jenny is an excellent tutor. She was incredibly patient with Zoe and a really good teacher. Zoe was really happy and confident working with her and felt safe to ask questions and sometimes because of her illness she could not really concentrate but Jenny stayed patient and really worked well with her. I highly recommend Jenny.

Sam's been great for my Sam and after over a year of other tutoring which Sam hated, I can't recall one time when Sam has not wanted to do his tutoring with Sam. As a result Sam's far more engaged with Maths and has moved up a group at school for next year! Thank you for Sam's persistence and flexibility on making learning fun and exciting for my Sam!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sylvania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Taren Point Public School.
