Helping the student not only improve their studies, but learn how to better study and learn independently when at home/in school. It's one thing to be working in a short tutoring session, and another to continue the work in ones own time. I am able to empathise with students and work with them on how they learn best (which teaching methods and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure they feel supported and allow them to take the lead. Students need to have the ability to decide what to study in tutoring classes and be able to study with the tutor after sessions independently. I can create a comfortable and supportive environment for students as I am patient…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is instill confidence in their students so they can tackle problems they were previously unfimiliar with on their own, as well as perform in high stress environments, such as tests. I believe that the greatest affect that a good tutor can do for a student is to infatuate the student into the subject, meaning to truly engage and interest the student in the topic. Once this happens the student will grow a love for the subject, leading them to career paths regarding this subject. This will more importantly grow a work ethic for…

I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

Beyond the learning of a specific subject, which may appear to be the main goal of tutoring to some, the most important things I believe a tutor can do for a student is to offer an enjoyable experience of learning. Students can of course vary greatly in their strengths, difficulties and needs. This is true both intrinsically and as a function of development and external context. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is therefore to diagnose those individual needs, and "meet the student where they are." The essential problem of tutoring…

I think it is a tutor's job to make the subject fun for the kid and make them love the subject, not develop a hate for it. I ended up getting an A* in the subject. I would want to follow…

I definitely think that there needs to be a solid understanding of the student and the way in which they learn so that the tutor can teach them in a way which is most effective to them. Along with this, I think that the tutor should make the student feel comfortable with them so that they feel free to ask questions or ask for further…

Local Reviews

I would highly recommend using EzyMath Tutoring for face to face or Facetime tutoring. My children's confidence in maths has increased dramatically since we have been using them. Will our tutor is excellent! We haven't even needed to stop during self isolation!
Sarah, The Gap

Inside The GapTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Will focused on factor trees and their use in multiplication, then reviewed basic algebra concepts.

For Year 8, Viran worked through exam revision by tackling a mix of basic, application, and complex problems across recent topics.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Lauren practiced finding the area and perimeter for a housing plan assignment, using real-world measurements to apply geometric reasoning.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student repeatedly avoided asking for help until prompted, especially in algebra and electrical engineering—"he finds it really difficult to know where to begin"—leading to missed opportunities for feedback and slower progress on homework.

In a Year 8 lesson, the lack of clear written working in equations caused confusion when revisiting earlier steps; messy notes made it hard to track mistakes or improvements.

One Year 3 student still counted with fingers and rushed addition tasks, which resulted in frequent errors and frustration during basic arithmetic practice.

Senior students sometimes submitted assignments with incomplete or context-lacking notes, making revision more challenging later on.

Recent Achievements

One The Gap tutor noticed a high school student, Viran, has shifted from needing repeated prompting to now asking for help independently as soon as he's stuck—he used to wait quietly or guess.

Another older student, Rurari, who previously took minimal notes and stayed quiet during sessions, is now actively taking detailed notes and regularly asks questions to clarify concepts like the Unit Circle.

In a recent primary session, Tara moved beyond just identifying fractions; she can now confidently explain fraction equivalence and represent them visually without hesitation.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My husband and I have been very satisfied with the service we received from Ezy Maths. We were very quickly appointed a tutor for our 9 year old Daughter and were extremely happy with David who quickly developed an excellent rapport with our Daughter. She very much enjoyed David's style of teaching and her confidence and knowledge in Maths have increased exponentially. We would thoroughly recommend your service.

EzyMath is great for the busy working family as the tutors come to your place at an agreed time to suit the family. The rate is very competitive and the written reports are a valuable source of information on a student's progress. The tutor was conscientious and went out of her way to obtain appropriate resources for our son. She was reliable and flexible and made our son feel at ease and more confident with his studies.

Arielle finds Ivan explains concepts really well and she seems to get on well with him , which is also important! Certainly she feels he is more helpful than the previous tutor and she doesn't dread the lesson like she used to before and manages to be alert for the whole hour. This is a big improvement on the previous tutoring experience!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashgrove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Gap State High School.
