Not only can tutors help build up a students' confidence in areas they are particularly weak in, but they can also give insight into what is to come in further years of school and how to prepare for such content. I believe I am good at breaking down harder concepts into individual relatable, easy to understand components to teach separately, then…

For me the most important thing tutor can do for a student is to listen him/her and show empathy. In addition to that a good teacher tries to find the strengths and weeknesses of students and help them in enhancing their strengths and overcome their weeknesses. I am very patient and approachable. I believe that positivity breeds positivity and…

Having believe in his/her students and motivate them to do the best that they can do and get up to the mark of students is the best a tutor must do and I have experienced that. Having belief in oneself and sharing that knowledge with others is itself a strength. Motivation is another aspect that I feel is important and must be for a…

An important factor for a tutor is for them to understand that people learn at different paces. Especially if they are quite troubled it is vital that a tutor is understanding, patient, and able to adapt their teaching style when needed. I ensure that I am able to teach step by step, so that there is no confusion and it shows the person I am…

In my opinion, the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to acknowledge the students intelligence. Einstein said it best himself "Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." And now we are learning more and more that there are multiple teaching styles…

I feel like the most important thing a tutor can do is to prepare a student for any academic challenges at school. This preparation can be reflected in the results that they end up achieving, but we should still believe that an exam can't be a true reflection of the students' true potential. Being a student myself, I feel like my strength is that…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to firstly cover any doubts that they may have in their work, then to work on those doubts. The most important things a tutor can do include creating a love for the subject and creating confidence in the student to help him/her achieve the goals they aspire to. I am patient, and not over-academic in nature, which allows me to have the ability to see the problems from the student's point of view. This makes it easier for me to connect…

I believe that the two most important things a tutor can provide are a motivation and a path forward for students. A tutor's job is then to simultaneously provide these in a way tailored to their student. Striking that balance is key to ensuring that the student not only understands the material that they've been taught, but also gain skills in…

A tutor should not only teach, but also guide. My greatest tutors in my high school journey resonated with me deeply and gave me a deep passion of studying. A tutor can teach according to the need of a student which is not possible in a class. Even a child can tell his or her weakness frankly which they can't express in the class I start from the basic. Tutors are essential for students who might have trouble learning at school, as school only showcases one method of teaching, which doesn’t work for everyone. Whereas tutors not only bring in an extra method of learning, they can also tailor their teaching to individual students, unlike in schools, where teachers have to teach classes, and…

One of the most important aspects of a tutor is to be flexible in perspective such that they can view the problem in the same way the student does. Inside ToongabbieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aman focused on solving simultaneous equations using both elimination and substitution methods, and also practised graphing linear equations from given formulas.

Year 11 student Grace revised differentiation techniques for trigonometric functions as part of the Stage 6 Maths Advanced calculus curriculum, then moved to integration problems involving exponentials and logarithms.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya tackled Financial Mathematics by calculating compound interest and worked through sequences in arithmetic series, reinforcing these with targeted exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's tendency to copy notes too quickly led to missing signs—"he would be copying notes but miss a sign or two because he go past too fast"—resulting in confusion when factorising expressions.

For a Year 11 trigonometry graphing task, another struggled with interpreting questions that were "a little wordy," making it harder to tackle exam-style problems without pausing to fully read instructions.

In both cases, the urge to rush or avoid careful reading meant extra time was spent fixing errors rather than building fluency with more challenging material.

Recent Achievements

During a Toongabbie tutoring session, Grace, a high school student, tackled her recent exam with noticeably greater independence. She earned most of her marks in financial mathematics and statistics after previously hesitating on multi-step problems.

Another tutor noted Oliver, also in high school, who now solves financial calculation questions quickly and confidently, having struggled before to select the right formulas without prompting.

Meanwhile, Isaac in Year 6 has started asking clarifying questions about his assignments rather than waiting for hints. This shows a real shift from passive participation to active engagement during lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Constitution Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Primary School.
