Physics Tutor Isabella Plains, ACT
I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to listen. It is important for a tutor to build a relationship with the students so that tutoring sessions don't become a chore, and the student feels comfortable seeking help with things in these sessions. Thus, I think that listening to and responding to the needs of the…

There are a few but I think the point of a physics tutor is for reinforcement. There is no way that a tutor will be able to pump out as much content as a student will be able to consume from traditional school, however with the 1 on 1 nature of tuition, tutors can take topics a lot further than a teacher would for an entire class. Not only this, a…

Inside TuggeranongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Eva practised addition using coins and mental strategies, building confidence by linking maths to everyday scenarios.

In Year 8, Olivia worked on interpreting boxplots and scatter plots, as well as solving inequalities through targeted exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Liam focused on quadratic equations—solving them both by factorising and applying the quadratic formula—with extra attention given to recognising when each method is appropriate.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, a student arrived to the session without having completed any extra revision for an upcoming exam; as one tutor noted, "we need to work on building independent study as a habit."

In Year 11 Maths, lesson planning and preparation remained inconsistent—sometimes no specific topics were chosen before sessions, making it harder to target weaknesses.

For a Year 8 student, written solutions in algebra were messy and often lacked clear formatting, leading to repeated errors that went unnoticed.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student frequently left homework incomplete or incorrect but could solve similar problems accurately with support during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Tuggeranong tutor noticed a Year 10 student who'd always hesitated to speak up during lessons now regularly explains his thinking aloud while tackling algebra and boxplot problems, showing real initiative where he once stayed quiet.

In a recent high school session, another student started using study cards to break down complex exam questions—she used to just copy notes passively, but this time she suggested writing out the steps herself and even asked for more practice problems.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who struggled with protractors last term now measures angles independently and double-checks her answers without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Your Tutor was great and even took the time to phone Glen's teacher to discuss areas where he was having problems so he could work on it him.   He was great and I would recommend him in a heart beat.

Natalie is really good and reliable. Cheryl is actually enjoying her tutor lessons with Natalie and looks forward to them. I actually was watching them for a bit during one lesson and I have to say, the way Natalie tutors is quite impressive. I have no negative feedback about her. Really appreciate your help in finding a good tutor for my sister :)

Jacqueline is really enjoying having Denise as her tutor.  She finds Denise's manner and approach to tutoring very good.  Jacqueline said it has made a great difference in her knowledge, understanding and confidence.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Tuggeranong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Charles Conder Primary School.
