What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I am a teacher so I enjoy spending time with students to maximise their learning. I really enjoy the challenge of increasing student achievement and mapping a path for progress within the area of concern. It is awesome to be able to raise student confidence in their learning and support them with the tools they need to achieve academic success.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
My biggest strengths are my understanding of effective pedagogical methods, my understanding of the Australian Curriculum and my strengths based attitude towards students. As a teacher I have a solid understanding of how to teach maths effectively. For example, using a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract framework to support students in learning new concepts.
Additionally, I have a strong understanding of the Australian curriculum and what skills students need to be achieving at their level. I strongly believe that all students can and will acheive success in maths given the right tools.
Most important things I can do for a student π
- Raise achievement
- Increase academic confidence
- Provide students with the tools they need to problem solve and achieve academic success independently in the future.

Yuvaan was settled and ready for learning. He identified his sounds quickly and was able to sound out unfamiliar words. Next term we will move into digraphs and unfamiliar sounds as he moves to the next stage of his learning. He was able to use a number chart to identify numbers before and after.
Yuvaan can practice remembering that digraphs are two letters but one sound, for example, he pronounces /ck/ as two k sounds rather than one, which we will work on in term 3.

Yuvaan was able to identify new words using his sound knowledge and was able to blend the sounds together with increasing confidence. His handwriting was much more controlled and a reasonable size. He could count numbers in our counting game up to ten and knew the meaning of βone moreβ which is excellent as it shows he is aware that numbers are sequential and add onto each other. This is not something he has previously been aware of so shows growth.
Tuva am still struggles to recount the story and characters in the story. He also threw a toy out of the window, which is a behaviour we have seen repeatedly in our sessions and one which both parents and I are trying to limit.

Dihen was able to create a summary paragraph of the Lorax when prompted by me, using details such as the who, what, where, when, why and how. Dihen was confident with mathematics and picked up the concept of multiplying with multiples of tens easily.
Dihen could use different starters to make his sentences more interesting. Next term we will focus on using different conjunctions to start our sentences and increasing vocabulary to ensure sentences are rich and interesting. Dihen sometimes would go very fast through his maths questions, which lead to inaccuracies. Additionally, he wanted to go very fast which made it difficult to explain the strategy to him before he started doing it.

Yuvaan showed confidence in sounding out individual letters and blending them into words, which was awesome to see as he had previously not been confident in this skill. He was able to identify starting sounds and match decodable words with pictures. He counted to 50 independently and is confident with numbers after. He can subitise with a dice, and can do this with automaticity with numbers 1-4.
While Yuvaan knew many of the words in the decodable book, he found it hard to recount the story and talk about who the characters were. He is working on focusing on one activity at a time as he can get distracted, however, I mitigate this by providing lots of opportunities for movement breaks. Yuvaan is still working on identifying numbers before as he confuses "before" and "after".
