Archie was focused and got through almost a whole practice exam. He had great knowledge of unit 1 content and used his notes well to find formulas and key concepts, which will help him to navigate his notes during the exam. He also showed his working, rather than doing calculations in his head which was great to see.
He made some small errors from rushing through some of the questions. To make sure this doesn't happen on the exam it will be important to do more practice and have a focused, patient mindset on the day. I would recommend that he does some more practice exam questions under timed conditions while slowing down, writing out each step and checking over his answers as he goes.

The skill of multiplying two matrices, particularly application questions involving variables and simultaneous equations, might need to be revised a few times to consolidate them fully.
Archie grasped the new content easily, and he completed all of his assigned questions. He also talked about his interest in transferring into Maths Methods.

Archie mentioned that he is struggling with motivation and focus in class and during tests, as he doesn't feel he's being challenged enough. Transferring into Maths Methods this year may be a great way to keep Archie engaged in maths and fulfil his prerequisite requirements for a Bachelor of Engineering. This would be a big change, and he should think about other options as well, like starting Methods next year and/or doing Further Maths this year. He mentioned that he isn't comfortable approaching his maths teacher about it in person, so he might need some support with this. We also discussed his test result and how he felt comfortable with the questions, but still made a few silly mistakes that he missed as he checked over his work. We talked about his test-taking process and how he could think about changing his method to improve his results.
Archie was very confident and answered most questions correctly on the first try. He checked over his work and drew diagrams to support his answers.

Archie mentioned that sometimes he loses marks from small errors like using the wrong units or parameters, or not explaining his answers completely. We will work on his checking process so he gets in the habit of correcting these errors as he goes. It'd also be great to see him build the habit of rigorously writing out his answers rather than doing questions in his head, as it will set him up well for tests and exams.
