Sure, a bit more detail. The most crucial aspects of tutoring involve providing personalized guidance tailored to the student's needs, fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, and ultimately helping them build confidence in their abilities. Guide my students, rather than teach him. The most important thing I can do for my students is to try my best to teach, so I can see their change day to day. I am very patient and perseverance, a tutor cannot be anxious to students, we need to give him some time to digest the knowledge. And I am very kind to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is inspire confidence that nothing is impossible! We're here to help and that involves listening, understanding, and figuring out how to make the subject matter tick for the student—as they say in the military, "There are no bad soldiers; only bad generals". Patience, ability to understand other…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them either to solve their queries and/or to further understand a topic in the respective subjects. When I first came to Australia, my English tutor was really helpful in answering my questions and equips me with basic skills for school such as grammar. My strengths are connecting…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be there for them and listen. It is important for students to know that mistakes are supposed to be made, and as tutors we are here to guide them through their mistakes. Furthermore, our role as tutors is to help children do the work, not do the work for them. Sometimes all students need is…

Firstly, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what the student believes they need to work on and aid them with that. The student needs are the highest priority and it is important they feel heard and listened to. Additionally, I believe that it’s important that we as tutors take the time to acquire extra…

I believe patience, resilience, and the ability to think fast to generate alternate ways to regain the student's focus, particularly if they are on the younger side. Aside from paying attention to the student's attention span, more importantly, a tutor should be prepared on going about different routes to ensure understanding of course content and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to think and learn. This is far more valuable for future work and study than any one topic to be learnt. A tutor needs to be able to imbibe in a student, a way of thinking about things, instead of just spoonfeeding the content and making everything easy for the student. It is very important to clear the basics of the student before anything else. Once the base is strong enough, the student will be able to handle any level of complexity in things. I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to boost their self-confidence. Learning, like everything else, is dependent on one's perception of one's abilities. Students who are confident in their abilities are more likely to be motivated than students who think they will never succeed. I think my strength as a tutor would be…

Inside Upper Mount GravattTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Shani focused on probability and data analysis, including interpreting simple statistics and practicing basic probability scenarios.

In Year 10, Lara worked through the discriminant in quadratic equations and reviewed linear equations, reinforcing her algebra skills with targeted practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Savio tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences by building recurrence models from information given and practiced rearranging algebraic equations using a step-by-step approach.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, incomplete homework became a pattern—one student "didn't finish the homework I gave," making it harder to build confidence with algebraic conversions.

In Year 10, a student shared she "finds it difficult to motivate herself to study for exams and usually procrastinates until the last minute," which left her rushed during practice sessions and less able to handle time pressure.

A Year 11 student relied on mental calculations in equations, skipping written steps; as noted, "it's better to write down the working steps out than doing mental maths." This made tracing errors nearly impossible under exam conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Upper Mount Gravatt noticed that a Year 10 student, who previously struggled to organise her thoughts for English assignments, began catching her own run-on sentences and correcting them independently by the end of their session.

In Year 8 maths, one student who used to quietly guess at answers started openly asking questions whenever unsure—showing real initiative that hadn't been there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student managed to finish all target questions on time for the first time after weeks of needing reminders, handing in her completed worksheet without any prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Garden City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Upper Mount Gravatt State School.
