Inside Valley HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Grace worked on identifying and ordering the letters of the alphabet as well as practising reading simple sentences.

In Year 9, Alexia focused on solving algebraic equations and using these skills to find areas of complex shapes, while also preparing for her test by revising multiplying and dividing algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student covered key Financial Maths topics including calculating tax, Medicare levy, taxable income, and interpreting exam-style questions using past papers.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, a student struggled with multi-step tax and financial calculations, but tended to avoid reworking questions independently—"she needs to gain more confidence in calculating taxable income," one note observed.

In Year 11, another student forgot to bring formula sheets and had not revised prior topics, making it harder to link area formulas for composite shapes during problem-solving.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student reviewing algebra repeatedly overlooked sign conventions ("be careful of the sign conventions"), leading to repeated errors that slowed progress through new content.

Each moment saw extra time spent retracing steps instead of building mastery.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Tariq had previously needed a lot of guidance with percentages and Pythagoras' Theorem, but last session he worked out the length of unknown triangle sides using the theorem mostly on his own, only asking for help when really stuck.

Isabelle (Year 9) started off unsure about calculating area and perimeter of complex shapes; now she accurately finds these for trapeziums and cylinders without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Lillian (Year 5) used to rush her spelling, but this week she took time to spell every word on her list correctly during her test.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I just wanted to let you know that Arielle's recent yearly Maths marks were the best she has ever had. Usually he marks are in the high 30's ( the test is out of 60) but this time she scored 50 out of 60! Arielle was thrilled and I know this has really boosted her confidence regarding her Maths abilities as she always felt Maths was too hard. I have noticed a definite change in her attitude to Maths tutoring with Ivan. She no longer dreads the session and is able to remain focused and attentive the whole time. This has given her the confidence to begin her new school next year with a positive attitude towards Maths.

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Shay is really enjoying the tutoring and Ben is a great tutor.  She is already improving in her maths, which was the objective.  Shay even does her extra math homework without argument which is amazing .  We look forward to working with Ben for the rest of this term and next year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blue Mountains Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blue Mountains Grammar Preparatory School campus.
