Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

Personally, I believe that students come to tutors for a reason: commitment. Even though I am not an official school teacher, I try to make sure that students walk out of the tutoring session with a reasonable understanding of a particular topic, despite the fact that they might have learned about it at school already. I think it is necessary that…

I feel sometimes the whole syllabus or some questions might look overwhelming at first for a student so often they need guidance to get started. Breaking down the syllabus or even a problem in smaller parts has often helped them. I think preparing them on how to face a question is one of the most important things a tutor should do for a student.…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to understand the pupil’s learning style and adapt the teaching to which best suits the pupil. It is imperative to understand that everyone absorbs knowledge differently and thus it is importantly that a tutor understands that and adapts accordingly. If I can make a student begin thinking more about the subject than just a grade to obtain, I would have felt that I made one more curious person. Curiosity is the root of knowledge in my opinion, and it would be the seed that I can share with the students that I engage with. I believe, they would lie in science, especially with regard to my…

I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

A tutor has an important role in the life of the student and many things that a student learns from the tutor sets a standard for how the student will relate with his/her studies. Wanted to take this opportunity to say how great Jeremy is! My daughter was incredibly nervous about having a male tutor but after the first session and moving forward, she feels completely comfortable, at ease and really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Jeremy. He has a very positive attitude and is very kind and encouraging towards Maycee's learning journey and for that we thank you all.... especially Jeremy!

Inside Victoria ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised Pythagoras' Theorem and practised solving right-angled triangle problems, then worked through trigonometry questions involving missing side lengths.

For Year 10, Jack focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as identifying transformations of functions using DESMOS.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia completed calculus work on optimisation problems and reviewed biology concepts like magnification and population density, making use of diagrams for visual understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often attempted to solve algebra and functions questions mentally, saying, "I can do this in my head," but skipped writing steps led to sign errors and confusion when rearranging equations.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of thorough notes before assessments made it hard to recall details under pressure; as one tutor noted, incomplete plans "meant she had to memorise last-minute."

A Year 4 learner's messy written work in fractions obscured mistakes until feedback was given. In these moments, missed working or disorganised notes cost valuable marks and slowed improvement despite strong effort.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Victoria Park noticed one high school student who previously struggled with chemistry problem-solving now sets out her plans clearly and completes simple identification tasks almost entirely on her own.

Another win came from a Year 11 student who, after several attempts, managed to get the structural formula right—showing real persistence compared to his earlier hesitation with complex diagrams.

In a younger session, Scarlett used to rush through subtraction but now backchecks each answer aloud and finishes her homework with little need for guidance, recently getting every worksheet question correct without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ursula Frayne Catholic College.
