Ensuring our duty of care over our students and making sure that they gained something from each lesson. Progress will take time and just ensuring that the student is happy whilst enjoying the process is key. I am able to break down quite complex mathematical concepts into bite sized portions that can be understood more easily by the student. I…

It improves the student's ability to understand and derive methods to solve complex problems and with the assistance of consistent encouragement, may spur the student on to…

A tutor should be able to help the student be more confident in their academic abilities, encouraging them to reach their highest potential and enhancing the student's own knowledge. A tutor should help to build resilience within the student, so that they not only learn to improve in academics but also learn to never give up when solving problems.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide the constant support to their student. As tutors we need to be able to believe that a student is capable and we need to be able to constantly provide that support. It is extremely important that when the student is faced with a difficult question, they are able to see many potential methods to attempt it. As such I consider the most important thing that a tutor can do it expand the understanding of their student so much so that they can see these multiple methods by themselves and adapt their thinking to the…

Flexibility and encouragement are the most important things a tutor can do for a student. There is no doubt that every student learns and engages with academic content in a different way. The most important thing is to understand the needs and problems of a student and to be able to target these issues. Our tutor Aryan is wonderful and my son Jack is learning great tips and is gaining a deeper understanding of Year 11 maths. I’m liaising directly with our tutor on sessions and happy with how this is going.

Inside VineyardTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Charlize worked on identifying Australian coins and adding different coin values, alongside revising addition and subtraction.

Year 9 student Ivanna focused on financial mathematics by calculating interest, then briefly discussed simultaneous equations and inequalities from school.

For Year 10, Justine reviewed exam questions involving circle geometry, clarifying misunderstandings as she practiced problem-solving with guided feedback.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, a student repeatedly arrived without completed homework, leading to gaps in understanding key concepts such as Kruskal's algorithm and the Chinese Postman problem. "She forgot some concepts from previous weeks—practice between lessons is crucial," one tutor noted.

In Year 9 Algebra, another student struggled to show working when solving equations; skipping this step made it harder to catch errors with like terms.

Meanwhile, a primary student found subtraction challenging and needed frequent reminders for basic steps, which slowed progress during lesson activities.

Missed practice or incomplete work often led to forgotten techniques and less confidence tackling new problems.

Recent Achievements

One Vineyard tutor recently saw Olivia, a senior high school student, move from needing guidance on financial maths to independently choosing the right formulas and accurately assigning variables in complex worded problems.

William, also in high school, had struggled with algebra but after targeted sessions is now solving equations almost entirely on his own—he even started jotting down key information before working through worded questions, something he hadn't done before.

Meanwhile, Sannae in Year 3 has begun breaking tricky words into smaller chunks and sounding them out unprompted when reading aloud.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Mollie is fantastic. Annabel really likes her and she's readily available for extra sessions.

Louisa is very pleased with Stella. She is a very conscientious and capable tutor. Thank you!

Dianna has been happy so far with Amy's approach, methodology and personality. It's a bit early to expect any result with regards to her improvement. I'm sure with Amy's help, Dianna will be able to boost her confidence before the high school.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hawkesbury Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Vineyard Public School.
