A tutor should be adaptable and tailor their teaching approach to fit the student's needs in order to foster a positive learning environment. I am very patient and adaptable, as I understand that different students learn at different paces, and I believe one of my biggest strengths is being able to make students feel comfortable by encouraging…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

According to me the most important trait in a tutor is patience. It is not necessary that each child learns at the same pace. A tutor should also possess the ability to create and provide problem statements which help the student to get a grip over the topic. Along with a good speaker a tutor must be a good listener making the session more…

Teaching students why things are the way they are rather than just telling them they exist. This way, students will understand the concepts for the long term rather than just rote learning them. I am a really good communicator and friendly by nature. This will allow me to explain hard concepts in a simple manner which can be understood by…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to create a space in which the student is comfortable and unafraid to make mistakes. This is extremely important in not only allowing the student to learn to the best of their ability, but to be able to question their own logic, problem-solve, and actively engage with content in…

As a tutor the most we can do for is a student is to encourage them to not just learn what's in the book but also to understand the concepts with a greater depth. The other thing that tutor can do for a student to maximise their educational growth is to try and make them understand the points where they are wrong and not just to do their work for…

Facilitating learning for students and empowering them to overcome their obstacles. A tutor needs to be an activator of knowledge and not a proxy to solve problems. Patience, flexibility and a sense of humour. I like to make the students feel comfortable and un-irritated by the problems they need to solve. I like to get the students to dig deep…

I think the most important thing a tutor can be is patient and supportive. As tutors, we have already completed these subjects, and so we know the 'pressure points' and ways to deal with them. It is our job to pass on this knowledge and help others. If someone is receiving tutoring, most often they are struggling with one or more parts of a topic…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to and understand the students' difficulties and know the parts they need my help the most. When I was a student, my teacher was not really able to help with my needs since he had to take care of so many students at the same time. Therefore, I think as a private tutor, I…

I feel like I have spoken about this slightly in the previous questions, but it is defiantly the ability to grow a students passion and interest. I assert that successful tutors are able to build strong relationships with their students as it personalizes learning. Another thing is to teach to the student's strengths and minimizes the students weaknesses. Every student and their way of learning is different, so, as a tutor, one should be flexible according to the needs of the perplexed…

Inside VistaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Marley revised the area of sectors and surface area from Chapter 7, working through example questions together.

Year 8 student Ava focused on drawing linear graphs from y- and x-intercepts and practiced finding slope in preparation for more advanced graphing work.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Liam tackled perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, mixed shapes, and circles, using visual aids to reinforce formulas.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student struggled to enter formulas into a scientific calculator, leading to repeated confusion and hesitation during multi-step calculations; as noted, "he seemed confused about entering equations and formulas into his calculator."

A Year 9 student rarely wrote out working for algebra problems, preferring to do everything at once on the calculator—this hid mistakes with signs and fractions.

Meanwhile, a primary student's written work was difficult to follow due to inconsistent layout when solving sums.

For a senior class, forgetting to bring revision materials resulted in incomplete homework and missed opportunities for targeted practice before tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Vista recently saw Finlay, a high school student, tackle dividing terms with indices—he made several mistakes at first but by working through booklet questions, he began correcting errors on his own and finished the harder problems without needing help.

Marley, also in high school, used to hesitate when breaking down algebraic expressions but has started handling multi-step substitutions independently and follows BEDMAS accurately throughout.

Meanwhile, a younger student named George shifted from being unsure about unit conversions to quickly giving correct answers for perimeter problems after just a couple of examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Agnes School P - 6.
