I will consistently encourage all my students to always try, and practise, and try again, until they master whatever they were first struggling with. Their dreams become my dreams for them, so I will never let my students give up on reaching their goals. Improvements do not happen overnight, but whenever they do happen, no matter how small, I…

Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Mastery learning is a way of designing units of work so that each set of tasks focuses on a particular learning objective and students must master a task to move onto the next one. The tutor should also help the…

A student will need a tutor because he/she couldn't understand what was being taught in class. The best thing for a tutor to do is focus on the parts that the student failed to understand and strengthen their understanding in those areas. Anybody's hold on Science is only as good as their understanding of the basics. So, it is best to focus on the…

Being a medical student, I value how education builds an individual. Having the right mentors and teachers during one's educational journey can either make or break them. Students look up to their mentors and tutors for various reasons. Students already interact with teachers at school, so they require a friend who understands their problems and…

As a tutor the most we can do for is a student is to encourage them to not just learn what's in the book but also to understand the concepts with a greater depth. The other thing that tutor can do for a student to maximise their educational growth is to try and make them understand the points where they are wrong and not just to do their work for…

Be an example. Be relaxed, and make the student enjoy the subject without feeling like education is be all end all. The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. The most important job of a tutor is to instil the love of learning into the student, because that will motivate the student to become a self-learner and make learning a joy rather than a chore. I think a tutor can teach a student how to learn a topic after it is explained by the tutor. Because at the end, it is the student who needs to learn by themselves after something is being taught to them. A tutor should make sure that anyone can learn those topics on their own if they are introduced by the tutor. My first strength as a tutor is my…

Local Reviews

Isabella was absolutely amazing. Tayla was beaming after the lesson. She gained a better understanding of the concepts and had fun in the process!
Jacqui, Walkerville

Inside WalkervilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

In Walkerville, Year 4 student Ben practised multiplication facts (7x, 8x, and 9x) and identified odd and even numbers using hands-on activities.

Year 10 student Olivia focused on the unit circle in trigonometry and reviewed questions from her recent exam paper.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ava worked through indices and surds as well as revising the Pythagoras theorem with practice problems to strengthen understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student arrived without prepared questions or specific doubts, making it difficult to target gaps; as the tutor noted, "We discussed preparing some questions beforehand and ask doubts on the same."

In Year 11 Maths Methods, another student relied heavily on the graphic calculator for linear equations and graphing but did not consistently write out working—when asked about steps, she skipped directly to answers.

A Year 4 student's maths homework was often incomplete or missing, which left basic multiplication skills underdeveloped. This meant more lesson time spent reviewing old content instead of moving forward with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Walkerville tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rely heavily on the tutor for each step in her algebra homework now attempting problems independently before asking for help—something she avoided last term.

In a recent session with a Year 12 student, they worked through textbook integration questions; after reviewing some challenging examples together, he started identifying which formula to use without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously hesitated to recite times tables is now eager to solve multiplication exercises aloud and managed to complete nearly all correctly without checking the chart.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Walkerville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Walkerville Primary School.
