I think the most important things a tutor can do are create a supportive and open environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I think one of my biggest strengths is my ability to adapt to each person’s unique learning style. I’m also always patient, which can make it easier for someone to feel…

I think it is important for tutors to show patience and understanding towards students. It can be frustrating when one struggles to understand a new concept and I want to ensure that the student finds enjoyment in their work rather than a sense of dread toward it. Therefore, I highly emphasize an approach of patience to foster safe and enjoyable…

Having the ability to relate to difficult challenges and stressful times faced by each student is definitely an important attribute for any tutor. Tutoring isn't always about helping students become smarter, but being able to communicate concepts and study tips clearly to each student so they improve and manage on their own when it comes to…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening to them and paying attention to their needs. Students can be shy and may not make it abundantly clear what they need in any given moment, but there are usually signs, though they may be subtle. It is a tutor's job to monitor the student throughout a lesson and make sure…

One of the most important things a tutor can do, other than assisting them to excel in all areas of learning is to instil them with the confidence to learn. This is crucial as it allows students to believe that school work/learning is to be something that is fun rather than a “chore†or boring. Once this occurs, the student begins to engage…

Encouraging them and reminding them that their school marks are not what entirely defines them as a good student. On top of providing them with academic support and guidance that they can apply to other fields. For instance, how to structure an exemplar essay or simply how to construct a study timetable. Finding unique ways to interpret notes and…

This involves not only clarifying difficult concepts but also teaching effective study strategies, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques. Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

In my opinion, these are: -High level of emotional connection to really see the needs of the student. -High adaptability in its own way of teaching, since maybe there is a different way in which the student can understand more and/or better. -Patience, especially in subjects that are tricky to get. I have a very applied way to understand…

I think simply put a tutor should give a student confidence that they can learn anything that is presented to them. It might take a different approach than they initially thought of but my job is to show them these different approaches. I am aware that it is sometimes extremely difficult to understand information when it is presented in only one…

I believe a tutor can make all the difference to a student struggling with their studies. School teaching can often be mechanical and impersonal; an environment where some students find it difficult to learn. I know first hand that teaching in smaller groups or one-on-one works is much more effective at learning hard to grasp concepts. The impact…

I believe in teaching the students skills more than information. The saying goes, if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime, which is very close to my heart. I believe tutors have the potential to really change a students attitude and opinion of school, a great tutor will not only teach a subject but teach a student to enjoy the subject through sharing with the student the things that make the subject enjoyable to them, and this has the potential to totally change a students academic life. I have been…

Getting my son started w ezymathtutoring was very easy. Very helpful, attentive and prompt staff in identifying what was needed and how the process works. Our tutor contacted me within 36 hours and was very friendly. The best part is after 2 sessions my son feels a connection with his tutor and feels she explains things in a way he understands. I look forward to more progress in the future.
Julie, Waverley

Inside WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia worked on understanding pedigrees and homologous chromosomes in biology, also tackling past paper questions to prepare for her upcoming test.

In Year 10, Leni focused on financial maths, covering topics like deposits, repayments, and interest through textbook examples, as well as applying the speed-distance-time formula with practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student explored quadratic equations and their factorisation, along with reviewing variations on quadratics to strengthen algebraic problem-solving skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, messy and incomplete working was a recurring obstacle—one session noted "steps were skipped or misremembered," making it hard to catch errors with fractions and algebra.

A Year 11 student in trigonometry showed persistent over-reliance on the calculator, struggling when syntax errors arose under time pressure.

For English in Year 8, anxiety about extending ideas led to short PEEL paragraphs; feedback wasn't actively taken up between sessions.

In primary years, lack of daily revision meant key ratio concepts faded quickly, with confusion returning after just a week.

By exam periods, some students became mentally fatigued and resorted to guesswork instead of methodical problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Waverley noticed a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, has begun openly checking her reasoning out loud and now tackles multi-step algebra problems without prompting.

In a recent high school English session, one student came prepared with his own plan for a writing task—something he'd never done before—and worked through constructing stronger paragraphs using the PEEL method.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to rush through reading passages is now pausing to identify key words before answering comprehension questions, leading to more accurate responses on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email. Ben and David are working well together and it appears that the working relationship is positive. Interestingly, Ben has instantly been able to move to working with David as both David and Ben have in common the same secondary school that Ben is currently going to. So while David attended the school some years prior to Ben, and much has change, they were still able to compare experiences about the school which helped start them working constructively. We are very satisfied with continuing with David.

Yes so far we are happy with Emma. The reason we want the tutoring is that I would like Stephanie to be extended in a similar way to that which coaching colleges follow ie they seem to follow the curriculum of selective schools. I would like Stephanie to have the same opportunity to be extended. Since the coaching colleges are inconvenient for us, we much prefer to have a tutor like Emma.

Tanay enjoys learning with Curtis which is a great thing so I am sure he will listen to what Curtis has to tell him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Waverley Public School.
