The most important aspect about tutoring is to be able to assess the ability of the students and tune the tutoring method accordingly. While some students can understand pretty quickly, there are students who require repeated teaching. The ultimate objective is to meet the expectations of students and parents. 1. Passion: Passionate about…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to listen. One of the most important things for me would be the tutor's ability to listen and understand a student's query patiently, as it influences how the same content can be tailored differently for a better understanding of the individual. Also, the ability to adequately motivate a topic helps students develop a higher interest and enjoy what they…

The tutor must be able to eliminate every question or doubt a student has on a subject or concept and enable the student to comprehend the information not just for scoring grades, but, for understanding and using the information in any scenario which requires it. Hence, the tutor must be able to inculcate this idea in the student and facilitate…

Inside WestonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Sam focused on converting fractions and decimals to percentages, and practiced addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators.

Year 9 Sami worked through factorising by grouping and calculated the volume of prisms and cylinders using formulae.

For Year 10 Tiana, lessons addressed solving simultaneous equations by elimination as well as finding the area of circles and parallelograms, using diagrams for visual support where needed.

Recent Challenges

During recent lessons, a Year 9 student relied on a calculator for basic multiplication and squared numbers, slowing progress in more complex test questions; as noted, "requires calculator for simple multiplying (x 3 etc.)."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student preparing assessment pieces faced procrastination challenges—study planners were suggested to manage multiple upcoming exams but deadlines still crept up.

In Year 7 English, missing or incomplete homework drafts led to last-minute writing sessions instead of refining arguments. These patterns meant valuable time was lost on foundational tasks rather than building confidence with higher-level skills before major assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Weston tutor noticed a big shift in Sami, a high schooler who previously felt stuck at a C but now independently creates extra maths questions to challenge himself and recently beat his goal with a 71% on his exam.

Another student, Rory, started the term hesitant to draft essays but now writes productively for nearly an hour straight and received positive feedback from his English teacher about a well-prepared presentation.

Meanwhile, Samuel in primary school moved from struggling with perimeter problems to mastering both area and perimeter calculations, finishing all four skill levels with just minimal guidance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Gemma was an excellent maths tutor for my daughter. She was prompt, friendly and informative. She helped my daughter understand many principles she was struggling with.

Deepti has a kind and patience method of explaining things to our daughter who has shown a steady improvement in her Maths ability since beginning her sessions. Deepti has instilled a new confidence in our daughter which has been a great comfort to us. We would recommend Deepti's services to anyone

Rosie is tutoring my child in year 7 maths and has built up a great rapport with her. Through my observations I can see that Rosie has a strong understanding of maths and is able to explain ideas and concepts very easily. She has a lot of patience and always checks my daughters understanding and offers alternative explanations where needed. Rosie is always punctual, friendly and polite and I am very happy with the progress that has been made to date.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Woden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Jude's Primary School.
