To teach a topic is to simplify it, make the students imagine and live in the topic by giving them real life examples and case studies. As a tutor I beleive in understanding student's perspective, I try to put myself in their shoes and consider all the possibilities. While preparing a topic I prepare as if the students know everything (which helps…

I believe a tutor play a great role in helping his/her student to build up self confidence. A tutor can help a student in identifying their strengths and weaknesses and work accordingly. 1. Customising the teaching methods as per the need of a student. 2. Dedicated individual focus. 3.…

In my current study, the most important skills are independent learning and peer teaching. I aim to teach students how to identify their gaps and where to look, whether Google or Youtube or books or teachers. I will teach students study skills like note taking or flashcard techniques. In the end, my goal will be to make the student the expert and…

I believe that the most important thing to do is to communicate with my student and get an idea of what they know and don't know. It is important to build upon existing knowledge to explain other concepts and to avoid confusing my student. I think my strength is being patient with my student. I also believe I can encourage improvement and work on…

I believe that it is incredibly important for a tutor to inspire their student to achieve their very best in terms of their academics. I also believe that a tutor can act as a more relatable source of academic help instead of a teacher; a tutor can provide more in depth help outside the class room. I can sympathise with the students in terms of…

I think that as a tutor, being able to understand the perspective of the student is crucial in educating them. Tutoring is a student-centred occupation and one should be able to assess students' knowledge in real time in order to develop effective teaching solutions. Another important tutoring technique is to be prepared for sessions. Whether it…

As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

Approach tutoring with an open mind. Some students can easily grasp the concepts while the others it may take time or a special approach for them to understand.Making the student feel comfortable is very important to allow them to express themselves and feel free to ask if they don't understand. There are various skills and attitudes that a tutor should have inorder for the student to enjoy and learn during lesson time. Being able to build rapport was one of the skills that a tutor should have its a way for the student to be comfortable. Moreover, being attentive to the student is a way of making the lesson flow smoothly. For instance…

The tutor should act like a robust bridge between the student and knowledge. He/she should guide the student in achieving erudition by showing the correct path. Tutors should also try to develop interest in students for subjects and it should not be confined to the prescribed curriculum. On the other hand it is prerogative for the tutor to realize…

Creating an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and exploring ideas they may be unsure about is one of the most important things a tutor can do. The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. By doing this, you are able to see more clearly the issue that they might be having. I also believe that finding the best learning method for a student is a key part of the role as a tutor, and this will…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

A tutor should be able to and simplify a particular concept making it easier for a student to understand. Helping them complete their work is part of the job. However, the most important thing is making sure students are relaxed. If they are getting overwhelmed they shouldn't be pushed because then it'll make them feel like they can't do it. So tackling their weaknesses at a realistic pace will help them not feel pressured to understand straight away.…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, make them feel comfortable and create a positive environment. John has been an amazing tutor for my son. John restored my son's confidence in his ability to do maths and prepared him for Year 12 exams.I cannot recommend his work highly enough, as he did everything we asked of him and more.

Inside WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jess focused on adding and subtracting fractions as well as simplifying them, and also worked through division and multiplication using practical examples.

In Year 10, Sophie practised rearranging equations and tackled compound interest problems from a practice test to reinforce her understanding before an exam.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex reviewed anti-differentiation and differentiation for an assignment, along with cosine and sine functions by working through chapter questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled to organise her method when analysing geometry problems—she stumbled on some small areas of solving, and incomplete written steps meant confusion slowed her progress.

In Year 11, another student found unfamiliar test questions overwhelming, relying heavily on the tutor to direct each step rather than building independent problem-solving confidence; after setbacks, hesitation increased.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's messy work layout made it difficult for her to check answers or spot calculation errors in division tasks. These moments left students spending extra time retracing steps instead of tackling new material.

Recent Achievements

One Windsor tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to get stuck rearranging formulas now confidently identifies and corrects her own mistakes during practice tests, showing new independence.

In Year 10 physics, another student who'd previously struggled with Newton's laws was able to explain the difference between linear equations and their application in projectile motion without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once hesitated to start worksheets on her own has begun initiating tasks and works through each question thoroughly before asking for help—last session she completed every problem in the set independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary of the Cross School.
