Encouragement/Motivation. The effort you put in may not always be reflected in the marks you receive, so often people lose motivation at the site of this. As a tutor it is important to highlight the things that the student did well in as well as the areas they can improve upon. Encouragement and motivation can help the student(s) push through…

i believe that it is the duty of the tutor to go to any lengths to make sure their students understand the concepts and topics to a point where they are able to do questions by themselves. they must also be able to develop the student's confidence in themselves whilst not making them feel as it studying is a chore than a necessity. I am very…

To make a child believe in themselves and also to let them know it is okay to make mistakes. What matters is how they deal with the situation and being able to teach them how to be mentally strong. I am patient and I believe I will be flexible as well. Moreover, I believe in having respect towards a child and parents. I’m an empath, I observe…

The most important things a tutor can do include boosting a students confidence to improve their mindset, helping deal with setbacks well, as well as simply teaching the content effectively. I'm confident in adapting to different situations, which could be applied to helping students with different problems, as well as being able to assist a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to always prepare for the upcoming lessons, and summarise the concepts in a way that the class will flow in a fluid manner, without any interruptions, whilst making sure the students understand the concepts. I make sure the individual actually understands what I am trying to teach, instead…

I strongly believe that a major part of students success of a student depends on his or tutor. That is his or her tutor's ability to convey knowledge about a topic. I have experienced such situations where a student had to rely on other stuff to understand a certain topic. One of the important things a tutor can do for a student is he has to…

I consider listening to the student of the upmost importance because I can understand from first hand experience that delivering too much information, particularly in an ineffective manner, can be overwhelming to the student. Therefore, establishing a report and open communication to learn the students weaknesses and learn when they may need help…

I think a tutor must know how a student learns and understands the subject and give them time to understand and test the information they learn. When I was a student, I found that I learnt best when I would test what I thought I knew with difficult questions that required a new approach. While my academic performance is great, with a 96 in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be that extra support and encouragement a student may need when learning. It is important to continually show support and let a student know that is okay to not understand things straight away as long as they persevere. This can be achieved through praise, awareness, and feedback. It is…

A tutor's purpose is to cover a student's weak points that they may not be able to understand in school. They need to be able to effectively supplement a student and allow them to reach their full potential. Our daughter is enjoying having someone (who isn't either of her parents, and has more patience than we do as well!) take her step by step through what she doesn't 'get' and then work out strategies that will help her understand what the question is asking and how to approach it.
Roisin, Winston Hills

Inside Winston HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kent focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising trigonometry concepts, including working through bearing problems with diagrams.

Year 11 student Miles worked on factorisation techniques and deepened understanding of logarithms, using real-world word problems to reinforce concepts.

Meanwhile, another Year 10 student tackled coordinate geometry by practicing mid-point and distance formulas as well as plotting points on graphs for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without finishing several homework pages, making it difficult to identify which skills needed extra support.

In Year 11, "she didn't complete any homework from the exam booklet I created for her"—missing out on practice that could have boosted confidence before assessments.

One Year 5 learner struggled to set out multiplication working neatly, often omitting steps: as a tutor wrote, "needs to structure out work in a manner that ables others to understand progress."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student kept forgetting formulas between lessons and had trouble applying them under timed conditions during class quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Winston Hills tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to structure her working, which has led to fewer errors and better marks in class quizzes.

A Year 9 boy, who used to hesitate when stuck, is starting to ask the tutor clarifying questions instead of giving up—a real shift towards independent problem-solving.

In a recent Year 4 session, a student who often avoided homework arrived with it completed and could explain her methods out loud before tackling new material.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Baulkham Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Winston Hills Public School.
