Physics Tutor Hamlyn Terrace, NSW
A tutor should be patient and friendly to re-discuss any topic number of times to make their students understand until they don`t feel to move to the next topic, a physics tutor should be a good leader who can motivate students in the right direction. I create a friendly atmosphere where students feel free to discuss their doubts without any…

Physics Tutor Watanobbi, NSW
The most important thing I can do for a student is to be patient. Patience is key in facilitating the process of learning as it removes the anxiety inducing pressure of expectation and allows the student to solely focus on the content at hand. Patience also allows the student to rationalise concepts at their own pace. This has the effect of deeply…

Inside WoongarrahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe worked through Roman numerals up to 50 and tackled time and clock problems, including the 24-hour clock.

In Year 8, Jack focused on linear equations and practiced plotting graphs for both linear and non-linear equations, along with an introduction to mean and median.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Priya explored trigonometric ratios—writing and applying them—and also completed a test covering basic trigonometry skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student faced challenges with algebraic multiplication and often skipped writing steps, as one tutor observed: "he needs to solve problems step by step and pay special attention to positive and negative signs." This habit led to sign errors that went unnoticed until the end of questions.

In Year 11, a lack of time management during inequalities practice meant the student ran out of time before fully completing the set task—leaving some concepts only partially understood.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner avoided showing working when converting fractions to decimals, which made it difficult to spot where misunderstandings were occurring.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Woongarrah recently saw Josh, a Year 11 student, move past his earlier struggles with algebra by mastering the substitution method for simultaneous equations—he was able to explain where he'd previously gone wrong and now solves them independently.

In a different session, a high schooler who'd hesitated to tackle worded problems managed to derive proportional equations and plot their own axes without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to avoid multiplication tables is now answering two- and three-times tables questions out loud without needing reminders or hints from the tutor.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes, we are very pleased that Sophia likes Rebecca and the tutoring seems to be going well. Rebecca obviously has patience and takes the time to explain things so Sophia can follow them and work through the maths, which is exactly what we wanted. The problem with the school is they move along so fast that there is not enough practice time, and we (the parents) are not familiar with what they teach so we can't just help out quickly; we have to re-learn it ourselves first, and then we're probably not good at explaining clearly. That's why it is great having Rebecca who can obviously explain things in a way Sophia understands. The main thing is that Sophia sees herself as '˜no good at maths', but when something is explained so she understands it, she is very pleased when she can get the right answers. A lot of it is a confidence thing I think, and also her school maths teacher has been quite negative about her work; so hopefully the tutoring will rebuild some of Sophia's general confidence over time, which would be great. Sophia will never be a star at maths, but if she can just get passes instead of always negative marks and comments from school, we will be quite happy with that. Sophia is very good at English/Hums and art; maths is her weak area, and we are very pleased (and actually surprised) that she is sitting through an hour of maths tutoring each week without complaint. We did not know how it would go; we tried one other tutor a few months ago , a retired male maths teacher - and she hated it. So this time we are very happy.

So far so good with Tim. Tim is now tutoring both my kids and both are really happy with him. Results will show in the months to come. It is early days but we are very happy so far.

Michael has really enjoyed having Raj come as his tutor.  In fact he also managed to get 80% on his last algebra test at school.  It has really empowered him to want to do well in maths and he looks forward to his tutoring session each week. We look forward to seeing him continue on his maths journey throughout the year. Many thanks Ps. I have referred a few of my friends onto your website as their kids were having difficulty too!!!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lake Haven Library & Council Services—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woongarrah Public School.
