No matter in which field you foray, the zest to learn new things will always keep you ahead. I believe my biggest strength is my ability to articulate and be present at the moment, so that I can assist with my…

Keep the student comfortable by making sure they are on track and giving another perspective to view a particular question. Tutors make students so much more confident (saying through personal experience) as they can figure out the many different possibilities to deconstruct and work according to the question I have a high level of patience, can…

I believe that a tutor should not just provide answers to a problem, but should guide the student to reaching that solution and ensure that they are able to understand the necessary steps. They should also be able to change the way they teach according to the needs of their students, as not everyone learns the same way. A tutor should be…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have the ability to cater to their needs and build self esteem, especially when one method of learning isn’t working. This not only allows for the student to understand concepts in other ways but also ensures and improves self esteem as often, students may fall behind from a…

Many modern teachers believe the way to teach is to go through the content directly and straightforwardly. However, inspired by Eddie Woo, I strive to deconstruct complex concepts into simple and relatable ideas, to not only pique students' interests but also to invite them to ask further questions to consolidate their understanding. I understand…

To me, what tutors can do most effectively for students is to help them achieve their learning outcomes at the end of each lesson. There is a specific need for us to teach to the student's strengths while minimizing the student's weaknesses. With regards to tutoring, we are solely responsible for setting up a teaching method to assist the student…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to enable a student with essential skills, both related to subject taught, as well as life skills. My weakness is that I often give…

To be a good tutor, I feel like you need to be personally connected with your students. Inside WoronoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Michael focused on algebraic techniques including expanding brackets and working with surds and indices, using step-by-step practice to reinforce index laws.

For Year 10, Jessica worked through exam-style questions covering simultaneous equations (using graphical, elimination, and substitution methods) as well as probability problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student explored decimals by practicing multiplication and conversion between decimals and fractions, also reviewing worded division problems for better application in context.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, one student's tendency to rush to solve problems in her head and usually skipped steps or made errors with working out in her head meant she lost marks on financial math questions.

For a senior science student, exam preparation was affected by a stressed mindset: her stressed mindset before the exam may hinder her performance therefore further exposure to exam-like conditions should be put into practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 English student failed to follow her own writing plan, resulting in unfinished paragraphs and unclear arguments.

When mistakes weren't reviewed carefully, missed feedback left the same errors unaddressed for next time.

Recent Achievements

A Woronora tutor recently noticed that a Year 11 student who used to hesitate asking for help now actively participates by posing insightful questions and taking initiative during lessons, especially when tackling complex chemistry concepts.

In another session, a Year 10 student demonstrated real progress in maths: after struggling with simultaneous equations last term, he completed them accurately and even handled probability problems with more independence.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started using her written notes to plan persuasive arguments on her own—she now refers back to previous work instead of waiting for prompts—writing a full persuasive paragraph without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

It's all going very well.  Billy really likes her and said she is clarifying a lot for him. I'm conscious that they are rushing through things at school so have told Mithra to take her time and not move on to new areas until she is satisfied he grasps it.

Monique is very happy.  In just two lessons, she has found a huge difference.  I commend Katy as Monique finds her very knowledgeable, friendly and easy going.  I am pleased as I too can see the huge difference in Monique's confidence. Thank you for recommending Katy, she is a marvel.

All good so far. Lauren has said that she is coping better in Maths at School so that's a good start.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Menai Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woronora River Public School.
