I think the most important thing is the personalized experience a tutor can give a student. Tutors have a responsibility to create a positive learning environment for the student and understand their personalities. This way tutors can help the students as an individual on their personal weaknesses and help then grow. I think my strongest strength…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is help a student believe in their own ability to learn and grow. It’s not just about explaining the material—it’s about building their confidence and showing them that they’re capable of success. Often, students already have the potential; they just need someone to remind them…

Active listening is an important ability for developing trusting relationships between students and colleagues. This ability enables applicants to effectively absorb the feelings of the students, allowing the instructor to guide them in a favorable path as a result. It's extremely important for a tutor to be receptive and lay the groundwork to work on by listening to the students needs during the first few meetings to understand where to student stands and what they require from you. Being open minded and hearing the students issues allows you to adapt your teaching and behavior to their difficulties and…

Just be someone in their life that can offer them support. According to me tutors should work on their patients and listening skills. A good tutor will be able to figure out why the student is having a hard time with a subject and address that issue exactly. The tutor must be a good listener because a lot of the time, the student will tell you exactly why they are having trouble. Sometimes, finding out…

I believe that the most important thing for a tutor is to be patient with a student. People have different speeds at which they learn and it is imperative that we as the tutor adjust our expectations for them. Tutoring is more like a dialogue between two people rather than a question and answering session. I want my tutee to go home feeling that…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are helping them feel at ease and motivated to learn. It's about adapting to their unique style and pace, making learning enjoyable. Setting clear goals and providing support when they hit roadblocks are essential too. Ultimately, it's sharing what I know and nurturing a lifelong…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. I believe that a tutor should not just provide answers to a problem, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to think to solve problems. This is why teaching maths or physics should go beyond drilling procedures, formulas and theorems into a student's head - tutors should encourage students to develop a wholesome…

For me, the most important things a tutor can do for a student include helping through their academic struggles, but in a way which is reinforcing and allows the student to fully grasp a concept and find satisfaction in it. Moreover, a tutor should not only be able to explain and break down concepts to students, but also provide exam and study…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence and self-esteem. Often, people feel discouraged or left out when unable to keep up with their class. Local Reviews

Rosie is tutoring my child in year 7 maths and has built up a great rapport with her. Through my observations I can see that Rosie has a strong understanding of maths and is able to explain ideas and concepts very easily. She has a lot of patience and always checks my daughters understanding and offers alternative explanations where needed. Rosie is always punctual, friendly and polite and I am very happy with the progress that has been made to date.

Inside ZetlandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student William worked on correcting homework covering simple interest and surds, along with catching up missed class content.

For Year 9, revision with Ben focused on dividing and multiplying fractions as well as tackling negative and fractional indices in surds.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Xavier practised converting remainders into decimals, solved word problems, and labelled different types of triangles using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left several steps unwritten when tackling algebraic equations, as one tutor noted: "he tried to do everything in his head instead of writing it down." This led to confusion over signs and made errors harder to spot.

In Year 11, incomplete homework meant that basic perfect square practice was missed, so extra time had to be spent revisiting foundational rules rather than progressing.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on division often forgot her materials at home, causing delays while searching for worksheets and slowing the start of each session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zetland noted that William, a Year 10 student, has started attempting every maths question instead of skipping the tough ones—a real shift from earlier sessions when he'd often give up if stuck.

In Year 11, after struggling with surd problems last term, he was able to recall the steps and solve similar questions independently this week, using his own notes for support.

Meanwhile, Elliott (Year 5) used to stay quiet during lessons but now openly talks through his reasoning on each English question and even asks for extra examples when something feels tricky. Last session, he wrote down all his ideas without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Green Square Public School.
