The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them believe in their capability within a subject, as my English teacher did for me. Many people have an attitude that they cannot do something or are just not good at it seeing that confidence in themselves change is the best thing. And also to be able to foster critical thinking for…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be able to adapt their teaching style for them. Everybody learns differently, and rather than directly giving away answers to students a tutor should be able to present the problem in a way that the student would be able to understand and learn from the problem. My strength as a tutor is…

I think it is very important for a tutor to provide support and be understanding; being patient with the student's current knowledge level and constantly working to adjust their practices to better suit the student.-+ I am very patient and understanding; as I recently completed my schooling, I can strongly sympathise with the stress of students.…

Just be someone in their life that can offer them support. Whether that is help with tricky questions or problems or someone to give advice on how to take exams and tips and tricks for studying the HSC or even just someone to talk too. I feel tutors can be a way for students to get away from school and their teachers but to still be able to learn…

Guide the student and not give them the answer straight away. Let them develop the critical thinking needed for each type of problem. This is especially important in programming. You might get away with memorizing solutions to specific questions in maths or chemistry but in programming, each problem is unique and you really need to understand the…

I believe that the most important thing for a tutor is to be patient with a student. People have different speeds at which they learn and it is imperative that we as the tutor adjust our expectations for them. Tutoring is more like a dialogue between two people rather than a question and answering session. I want my tutee to go home feeling that…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are inspire and impart. Give the students the right studying tools (like time management or exam preparation for example). Local Reviews

Rosie is tutoring my child in year 7 maths and has built up a great rapport with her. Through my observations I can see that Rosie has a strong understanding of maths and is able to explain ideas and concepts very easily. She has a lot of patience and always checks my daughters understanding and offers alternative explanations where needed. Rosie is always punctual, friendly and polite and I am very happy with the progress that has been made to date.

Inside ZetlandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student William worked on correcting homework covering simple interest and surds, along with catching up missed class content.

For Year 9, revision with Ben focused on dividing and multiplying fractions as well as tackling negative and fractional indices in surds.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Xavier practised converting remainders into decimals, solved word problems, and labelled different types of triangles using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left several steps unwritten when tackling algebraic equations, as one tutor noted: "he tried to do everything in his head instead of writing it down." This led to confusion over signs and made errors harder to spot.

In Year 11, incomplete homework meant that basic perfect square practice was missed, so extra time had to be spent revisiting foundational rules rather than progressing.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on division often forgot her materials at home, causing delays while searching for worksheets and slowing the start of each session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zetland noted that William, a Year 10 student, has started attempting every maths question instead of skipping the tough ones—a real shift from earlier sessions when he'd often give up if stuck.

In Year 11, after struggling with surd problems last term, he was able to recall the steps and solve similar questions independently this week, using his own notes for support.

Meanwhile, Elliott (Year 5) used to stay quiet during lessons but now openly talks through his reasoning on each English question and even asks for extra examples when something feels tricky. Last session, he wrote down all his ideas without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with AiPing, she works the boys hard and seems to be very knowledgeable.

So far we are extremely happy with Sarah. As you said, it is very early days, but so far so good. Mackenzie is very comfortable with her and feeling very positive about having Sarah as his new tutor. She is always punctual and friendly. And she has taken on some extra sessions with Mack over the school holidays which has been very helpful. I look forward to getting a couple of months tutoring under our belt to hopefully see some progress.

Thank you for your email.  Things are going well with the tutoring and Christian is a capable young man, as you say it will take time to see an improvement. Hopefully after that time, Kimberley will be feeling more confident.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Green Square Public School.
