I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen. I believe listening is very important since if you don't listen to your student, or get them to explain concepts for themselves, you won't be able to deduce which areas to focus on. One of my weaknesses as a tutor would have to be that if my student is having difficulty,…

Plan ahead and work with the students to set small goals they can work towards a bigger goal at the end of the semester, so the process of learning is broken down into easier components. I am patient and a good listener. I really want to see the student succeed and think of new ways to help them learn and…

Helping students understand that they are capable of overcoming their difficulties with the subject. Helping them to identify what they need to improve in order to perform better. Teaching them that their efforts are worth it and that they can achieve their goals if they work hard. Many students give up before trying, so I think this is the first…

in today's modern world, delivering the lecture is not sufficient, in fact, it is more important that students are getting the real picture of that idea or not, if not then tutor can change their method of delivery/teaching to make them understand. The tutor is there to guide and help the student but the best thing a tutor can do is to create way for the student to come to the answers themselves as well. A tutor can help children think better thoughts and give them strategies but it is also up to the student to work hard to improve. A tutor is there for encouragement and support as well…

I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to inspire, guide and listen. Support their learning without giving away the answers easily so that the student can actually practice while supervised. This not only and proves their understanding, but also allows them to go through all of the processes in problem solving so that they form their own framework to comprehend the subject matter. It is important to do this while…

Tutors should be able to convey information in a way that not only makes sense, but engages the student. A tutor should be as eager about the subject they are teaching as they are knowledgeable of the topic, and should strive to convey this excitement and passion through their teaching. The ability to help a student not only understand, but love…

Being consistent, diligent and warm are what I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Inside ZillmereTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jessica focused on differentiation, learning to interpret the slope and smoothness of lines in real-world contexts, as well as refining her assignment writing by articulating mathematical assumptions and observations.

Year 10 student Zara worked through quadratic concepts such as completing the square and difference of two squares, alongside practical factorising using multiplicative primes.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Darci strengthened her understanding of angles and probability, plus practiced simplifying and solving fraction word problems using visual strategies.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, Jacob struggled to plan regular practice and balance his schedule as the workload increased—"this is sort of a buffering period," noted his tutor, but gaps in routine meant last-minute revision before assessments.

For senior Maths, Jessica's written work needed clearer structure; she often left "solve" and "verify" sections incomplete in assignments, which made it hard to track her reasoning or spot errors early.

Meanwhile, Giselle (Year 10 Science) hesitated to express her understanding out loud or use new vocabulary when tackling complex questions, leading to answers that didn't reflect her real grasp of the material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zillmere noticed that Genevieve, a high school student, has moved from frequent confusion with fractions to independently answering most questions and explaining her reasoning clearly.

Another secondary student, Zara, who previously needed support with factorising quadratics, now confidently solves complex expressions and applies simultaneous substitution without prompting.

At the primary level, Jade used to struggle visualising multiplication problems but now creates her own word problems and models solutions with diagrams. In her last session, she completed all set tasks accurately and explained her methods step by step.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Abed is passionate about maths, and is very keen to teach his student, and ensure they are succeeding. He is an asset to Ezymaths.

Things are going really well. Kai enjoys Noah's tutoring. On his last math's assessment he received 80% in comparison to the one before which was 55%. I met with his math's school teacher and she has provided upcoming topics for Noah to discuss with Kai as well as 2 practice tests. Her feedback was positive too and constructive. If we stay on this path, I'm confident that it will prepare him well for the upcoming HSC.

Appreciate all the work and effort from Ezymath. Very happy with the program and the service.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chermside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Jabiru Community College.
