I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I believe in creating an environment where students feel…

To engage their student in what they are being taught. Often, it is easy for tutors to treat teaching as a rote-memory recitation of their materials, without actually using other analogies and connective methods that students benefit from. If a tutor is unwilling to invest energy into their lessons, a student likewise will gain little enrichment.…

I believe that as a tutor, my most crucial roles involve instilling self-confidence in my students, providing reliability, simplifying complex concepts, and fostering a genuine passion for the subjects they study. In my four years as a teacher in Italy, I've honed my tutoring skills with a strong emphasis on empathy for young minds, coupled with…

A tutor should provide a learning environment where students can build their confidence in academic performance. I believe it is crucial to get students engaged enthusiastically in the subjects and be open to their questions. "Can-do" attitude, highly organised, patient , and good at providing advice for others according to their…

Help them to improve their confidence and understanding in subjects and give them the tools to be able to work, study and perform well in exams and assignments on thier own in the future I think that I am good with kids, especially young ones and getting them to work and improve even when they are not confident or prepared to. I also think that…

Someone once told me a great teacher is not a messiah but a guide. As a tutor, I do not gift my mentees the treasure of knowledge but rather act as a guide toward achieving them. I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for their students in the limited time that they have is to show them how to study on their own and succeed even…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. I would do this by encouraging a growth mindset and applying school concepts to the real world to show students that school learning does relate to the real world and doesn't just remain in the books. This is something I personally found…

Firstly, Building confidence in a student to make him function in his own.Secondly, a tutor should consider himself in terms of the student's point of view. The most important role a tutor plays for a student is to assist the student in developing their own agency in their subject area. When we believe a subject is beyond us, or we're not smart enough to grasp it, we shy away and don't push ourselves as hard. Often this belief has developed from what others have told us or from not having the right…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student understand a topic. This may sound intuitive however it is often majorly overlooked and replaced with acceptance or shear memorisation for the student. What I want is for my students is a true understanding of the subject, giving them the tools of learning so that they can…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. The most important thing is to be a tutor if she can develop these abilities in his student. 1. why they are studying a particular subject? 2. How they can understand the laws of nature by doing science. 3. How they can develop the ability to ask questions? 4. How they can find the right answers to their questions. 5. Science is not a burden…

There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

Inside AshfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ekam worked on fractions, including addition and multiplication, and then applied these skills to measurement topics such as distance, speed, and time using worded problems.

In Year 10, Alex tackled trigonometric equations involving multiple quadrants and explored data concepts like skewness and interpreting box plots.

For Year 12, Priya focused on integrating exponential functions as well as applying calculus to graphing tasks by finding stationary points on curves.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, there were repeated challenges with remembering area and perimeter formulas—one session noted "despite having already written down the formula over and over again, [he] seems to be uninterested and not focused in class," which led to forgotten content week-to-week.

By Year 11, skipped steps became visible in working for median questions: a tutor remarked, "skipped steps in working here and there leading to careless mistakes."

In senior years, missed homework and reliance on tutor guidance limited independent understanding; during trigonometric identities revision (Year 12), incomplete set-out hid errors until feedback was given.

Confidence sometimes dipped after setbacks, causing quietness rather than seeking clarification.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ashfield noticed that a Year 8 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with probability questions now speaks up as soon as he's unsure, leading him to solve more problems independently.

A Year 12 student demonstrated a real shift by revising and annotating his assignment before submission, making specific improvements based on feedback rather than submitting straight away—a big change from past rushed work.

Meanwhile, one younger student recently completed all of his homework correctly for the first time this term and was eager to show how he'd checked each answer himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ashfield Public School.
