Not doing the work for them. I believe that this is a big mistake that I noticed it has been happening to our high schoolers. Tutors will do the work for them without letting them understanding. Tutors should go through questions and examples and let students do their work by themselves with pointing to their mistakes. I put for experience 0 up,…

For me its the concept of instilling confidence. So often children are discouraged by a challenging question and then feel incapable and worthless. This is wrong on so many levels and child should ever feel this way. The most important things a chemistry tutor can do is instill confidence in children through patiently encouraging them to never…

Listen to feedback. Make sure they understand what they are being taught and determine if a new approach is needed. Sometimes the same information can be summarised and presented in a different way that is just easier for some people to understand. My own capacity for learning. Information retention and comprehensive analysis. Communication…

the most important qualities a tutor can have is being considerate, compassionate, patient, knowledgeable and helpful to the students and make them more interested in the subject they are working on. I love using fun and interactive strategies to teach students so not only get good marks they also get curious about the subject. This will really…

The most important and vital thing that a tutorcan do for a student is not only the lesson itself but also the essence/importance of the study or subject matter with a touch of personality and values development. Growing up I'm a self learner and always have the passion for continuous learning and I see that as a strength. Also, I have a keen eye…

Local Reviews

Jon has a very approachable teaching style and even after 1 lesson has provided some fantastic tips for my daughter for maths. Jon explains things simply and provides a very relaxed atmosphere, my daughter commenting she doesn't feel silly about asking questions.

Inside BellmereTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Rebecca worked on simplifying ratios and multiplying/dividing like terms, with some extra practice on rates.

For Year 11 Joshua, the focus was trigonometry using sine and cosine rules along with revision of transposing equations from his textbook.

Year 12 Dirk tackled basic parabola and hyperbola equations, checking his understanding through worked examples from class.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student left most maths homework incomplete last week, despite encouragement and targeted practice tasks—this led to less confidence in class discussions.

In Year 8 Maths, "Joshua needs to improve on note taking," as a tutor observed; missing key steps and not consolidating formulas meant extra time spent re-learning basics during sessions.

A senior student often relied on mental calculation for fractions and algebra but skipped writing down working, which resulted in small but persistent errors that took time to untangle.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner struggled to apply feedback independently when tackling scale factors and percentage problems, needing frequent hints before progressing.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bellmere noticed Joshua now speaks up when he's unsure about problem-solving steps—whereas before, he'd stay silent and guess.

Rebecca, also in high school, has started to pinpoint exactly which maths questions confuse her and is comfortable admitting when she needs help, a big shift from earlier lessons where she hesitated to say so.

In Year 3–4, Summer recently began working through number line problems independently instead of waiting for hints, showing more initiative than at the start of term when she needed step-by-step guidance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

WE are very happy with Adam. He is an excellent tutor and he is engaging them both very well

Natalya is progressing really well with her math tutoring. Daniel is an excellent tutor and Natalya feels very comfortable around him. Her enthusiasm for maths has soared which for Don and I is a big step forward in such a short time. Her teacher has already commented on her progress and we have no doubt that her grades will continue to improve over time.

Andrew is very happy with Stephen's tutorials. They have already formed a very healthy teacher student relationship, and Andrew is enjoying his Maths.  He got everything correct in a test he did at school last week.  The only thing that was incorrect was the fact that his decimal point was not in the correct place.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caboolture Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bellmere State School.
