I think confidence is key, it’s not about rigorous testing, its about ensuring that they have confidence to solve the problem, focusing on teaching the method in different ways. ( E.g teaching a formula in maths based on step by step, visual and writing the instructions down in words) I never really had a normal study method and it really made…

Make them feel comfortable about their studies. Make them confident in their studies, so that they can reach the saturation level of their potentiality. Make them believe they can learn anything and everything with a little bit of extra time. I am honest and caring which helps me to conlnect to my student. I try to link all the given…

I consider the most important thing to be support. It is important to constantly communicate with students in order to manipulate your lesson plans according to their specific needs. School can be very stressful, and being able to provide support for students can definitely both make their studying easier, and also increase their efficiency. As I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be loving. Actually caring for the student's academic success will not only make them more likely to succeed, but it will help them go beyond to reaching a scholarly level. My two leading strengths are that I know how to teach to make difficult subjects more easy to understand and I am…

It is very important for the tutor to build their students confidence by celebrating their progress and encouraging their efforts. Tutors should also adapt their teaching style to their students specific needs. The tutor should also ensure their student's understanding is complete, that they aren't simply regurgitating information. I am patient, I…

I think helping students understand how to approach a question and learning how to discipline themselves is the most important. Constantly reminding them to complete their homework so we can go over their mistakes next time is also important in establishing a routine and will hopefully give them an incentive to do the same with school. I believe I…

Someone once told me a great teacher is not a messiah but a guide. As a tutor, I do not gift my mentees the treasure of knowledge but rather act as a guide toward achieving them. I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for their students in the limited time that they have is to show them how to study on their own and succeed even…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. If the child is stuck on a concept, it is my responsibility to help the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is being able to explain a concept in a manner which a student can understand. Along with this, I think it is important for a tutor to empower their students, give them confidence, help them reach their goals and improve. I think that it is imperative for the tutor to try their hardest to create a passion for the subject in the student, as this will motivate them to try as hard as they can. My passion for maths not only motivated me to study but enabled me to thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every lesson. It is also important that the tutor has an open mindset…

The best thing that a tutor can do for a student is not to regurgitate information - that can be found by reading a book, or browsing the internet; but to inspire. I believe that a perspective can be most powerfully shared by someone who has seen and understood, who can empathize with the struggles that are necessary to get to seeing the solution…

A tutor determines the level of understanding a student develops in their subjects. Tutors also influence the personality of the student by how they motivate and inspire the student by showing their own passion for the subjects. Develop their understanding of the subject. This means ensuring they understand the process and the mechanism behind a math calculation for example. This will boost their confidence in being able to answer harder questions that require this skill. Particularly for maths, the harder questions are situated in Q15 and Q16. Attaining marks in this…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them understand the course content- so they can pass assessment- and also to help them understand other aspects of the subject they need or want to understand, either for the sake of curiosity or because they have some use for it. It is best if this understanding is of a deep…

Inside BexleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student William focused on index laws and scientific notation, then practiced probability questions using examples from Chapter 2.

A Year 11 student, Emily, worked through HSC exam paper problems covering normal distribution and financial mathematics, as well as finding roots of quadratic equations with applications in geometry.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Olivia strengthened her understanding of angle theory—especially with parallel lines and triangles—and reviewed plotting straight line graphs on the Cartesian plane.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student often avoided writing full working in algebra and calculus, saying "I know the answer," but missing steps led to calculation slips—especially under exam pressure.

In Year 9, a lack of organisation with formulae meant that when solving geometry problems, the correct method was known but not set out clearly on paper.

For a Year 5 learner, motivation dropped after returning from a long holiday; homework was incomplete and key multiplication facts had to be re-taught during sessions.

These habits left students spending valuable lesson time retracing steps or relearning rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

A Bexley tutor noticed Milo, a Year 12 student, had previously found financial maths and normal distribution formulas challenging but now solves related problems independently and accurately.

Benjamin, in high school as well, initially hesitated with square roots; after working through the concept step by step, he managed to solve equations and factorise expressions without needing prompts.

Meanwhile, Jessica in Year 5 used to struggle with fractions—she would guess answers instead of showing her process—but recently completed her homework almost error-free, checking her own work before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bexley Public School.
