I believe as a tutor the ultimate goal is to help the student become an independent learner. Also, confidence is the basic quality of a tutor. It also means that you have the courage to admit that you don't know the answer. Knowing that you are not absolutely correct, so that students may feel better. Lastly, be willing to share your own…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel listened to and valued. I understand that in a group setting, teachers may not be able to interact and be with a single student at one time, but I want to be a tutor who is present and who can build growth in the students, not only academically but also emotionally…

Build their self confidence and the ability to be self sufficient. Mindset and attitude plays the most vital role to success in life. Just like school teachers, tutors play a massive role in setting a positive learning environment where students want to learn for their goals and ambitions rather than a student who just wants to get their lesson…

Naturally, a tutor's main priority is to provide profound and thorough knowledge through clear communication. I believe that while this is nuclear to the role, this teaching can only be achieved if the tutor also carries other accompanying qualities. This includes patience and listening, aforementioned, and trust. As a tutor, it is inevitable that…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them instead of doing the work for them. It is important for the students to feel that they have control over what they are learning and for them to be encouraged through feedback and practice. I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to cultivate the interest and engagement of the students. In Chinese, there is an idiom that roughly translates to "Interest is the best teacher", by actively engaging the interests of students you make learning not a chore, but rather a joy. As a tutor, it is important not to be restrictive in your approach and to have flexibility. Being able to personalise your approach, trying out different ways of teaching and altering it to suit the student is necessary to make them feel more at ease when learning as well as bringing out the best in them. Rather than students catering to us, we…

I think that if the student and the tutor communicate well and both parties understand each other, then it will help the student tremendously. Improving the confidence of the student is key. The student should evolve to have more trust in themselves and their abilities and be able to apply this. Sometimes getting tutored can feel embarrassing or humiliating to students, so it is vital that they are empowered and encouraged, without giving too much of a teacher-student dynamic, but just a friend who is going to help them. It is important for tutors to understand how students think and find ways to relate the problems/difficult subjects to…

Extending beyond the scope of just being a tutor at set times is key for a student’s confidence and rapport building. Mladen Kopic, Boronia

Inside BoroniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia worked through fractions and percentages using real-world examples, then moved on to practising long multiplication and division for improved accuracy.

Year 9 student Liam focused on mastering linear graphing techniques alongside trigonometry basics like SOH CAH TOA, including some bearings problems.

For Year 12, Emily tackled advanced calculus topics such as differentiation (chain, product, and quotient rules) and integrated practice with exam-style questions covering probability distributions and financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to remember and implement area and volume rules, leading to slow progress during revision—"he needed tips on memorising these rules to feel more confident."

In Year 12, a lack of careful checking when solving integration problems resulted in using incorrect numbers and missed marks.

For a Year 8 lesson, one student's written working was often skipped or incomplete in algebra tasks, making it harder to spot errors and correct them quickly.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of mistakes, sometimes leaving questions unfinished after initial setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A Boronia tutor recently noticed a big shift for a Year 12 student who'd struggled with advanced differentiation: after needing lots of guidance last month, she worked through the latest book problems almost entirely on her own, only asking for help with one especially tough question.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, another student who used to freeze up when graphing can now confidently draw and interpret graphs without prompting—last lesson she completed an entire set solo.

For a younger learner, mastering trickier times tables had always been daunting; this week he applied a new strategy independently and finished all his practice questions using it.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Since my daughter has been tutored by Ezy Math, she has improved significantly. At the end of last year she failed the yearly test and was ranked near the bottom of her year. Now after just 3 months of tutoring , she has achieved the highest mark in her class in the  half yearly exam. This has been a great boast to her confidence in addition to a great academic achievement. She knows now that she has the ability to do well in maths. Jessica is always very well prepared for all the sessions. During this time we went away on holidays and missed 3 weeks of school. Prior to leaving Jessica covered all the topics the school was doing to ensure that she did not get behind. We are extremely happy with Ezy Math Tutoring and  highly recommend them.

I was just writing to let you know that I got better than the grade I hoped for, so everything turned out great! I wanted to say thank-you for all of your help. I would not have been able to do this without you. Thanks so much.

After two months our son's marks in year 10 maths went from the fourties to the seventies. I think most tutors know their maths but our tutor is a wonderful communicator and talented educator whom we wish to retain through the HSC.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia K-12 College.
