Make them feel capable and competent no matter how difficult they may find the subject. Help them know and feel that the hard work will pay off and be worth the effort. Recognising that each individual needs help in different areas as well as learning in different ways sometimes not the standard teaching method works for every student and a…

I strongly feel as if education is the most important tool for any person, especially in today's world. Therefore to be able to pass on that knowledge is phenomenal. I believe that if one child is educated enough, to have a comfortable life, then the following generation is also automatically able to have a comfortable and sustainable life. A…

I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. Whenever there are difficult times, give out the answers is never the way to solve the problem. I'm very patient when teaching my students, I wouldn't mind…

Definitely detailed explanations on the process, so a full understanding is uncovered for the student. When I was in high school, class can only teach you so much - I used to go after school to my teachers to seek help and get the deeper understanding of the content. Tutoring is there as an extra support for the student, I think it's important…

One of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to ensure that they feel confident in their skills and abilities. It's important to not put students down for being behind in school, but rather give them the confidence and support so that they want to learn and are eager to improve their abilities. I also believe it is…

The most important things an english tutors can do for a student is to help them with learning by giving it attention to detail and the developmental tools they need that they wouldn't be able to get in regular schooling, through either not enough resources, lack of knowledge or split attention from work, life, or play balance. I believe that an english tutor needs to communicate with the student about their needs. I think that if the student and the tutor communicate well and both parties understand each other, then it will help the student tremendously. I consider adaptability to be one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student. Yes, some students will understand off the bat, but others need explanation in a different way, whether through pictures or schematics. I will always do my best to adapt my teaching style to a student, so they can best understand the content. This…

Allowing students to become independent thinkers and restorning their self confidence is one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student. As an english tutor, it is important not to be restrictive in your approach and to have flexibility. Being able to personalise your approach, trying out different ways of teaching and altering it to suit the student is necessary to make them feel more at ease when learning as well as bringing out the best in them. Rather than students catering to…

A tutor should be dedicated to his job, which is to facilitate his student to learn things in a easy and practical manner. Learning should not be boring, instead should be fun. I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is making sure they have enough confidence and belief in themselves to replicate the work you do together, by themselves. This in the end is the most beneficial skill when it comes to school, because self doubt holds back so many students. Being able to break down concepts into…

A good teacher can make a good difference in a student's life. A tutor can also give good guidance to the student, letting them aware of the good and bad things about life. A teacher not only teaches a subject to the student but also builds a certain part of the student's character. A teacher also builds a student's future, if a student is…

Being understanding and open minded may perhaps be the most important thing that an english tutor can do for a student. Every student has varying strengths and limits and thus following the same approach may not have the desired result. Thus, being patient and having more than one explanation may prove in handy and help make a student develop…

Inside WantirnaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Zoey reviewed solving quadratic equations using the discriminant and completing the square, and practiced finding turning points as well as applying Pythagoras' theorem and basic trigonometry.

For Year 10, Michael focused on consolidating his understanding of indices and surds alongside additional practice with quadratics and trigonometry problems.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lily worked through bearings and unit circle concepts in trigonometry, using diagrams to help visualise angle relationships.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, one student hesitated to attempt unfamiliar problems unless the exact solving method was already known, which led to slow progress and "waiting for external help."

In Year 11, a lack of attention to detail in financial maths homework—"one mixed-up tax step affected all answers"—meant time was spent correcting errors rather than building confidence.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often avoided writing rough working in new topics; her written solutions became jumbled and hard to follow.

Across both primary and senior levels, relying on old examples or replicating steps sometimes blocked true understanding when faced with novel tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Wantirna tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help; after struggling with algebra, she recently approached her teacher independently about a tricky maths problem and could explain where she was stuck.

A high schooler who had always needed prompting to check her work is now catching and correcting her own mistakes during homework review, showing much more self-reliance.

In Year 4, Maya started explaining out loud how perimeter measures the outside of shapes versus area inside—a real change from before when she mixed up the two and wouldn't talk through her thinking.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Amity is enjoying her tutouring. She is very pleased as she recently received an academic award at school meaning she had received A for all subjects for last term. So we are very happy with Xiaoya.

Tutoring is going very well she's starting to show some progress now which is good and Deanna works her hard which is great.

Since Ben has had Jacques tutoring, he has achieved an A++ (15/15) for his maths assignment!!!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Knox Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yea High School-Chinese Community Centre.
