A tutor should get a student to THINK! and not rush to find an answer! This means to get the students to be able to focus on the content at hand and to use various ways to remember the content and apply the content in different ways to solve problems in the real world. Life experience/work…

Economics Tutor
The most important things I do as an economics tutor are listening carefully to understand where a student is struggling, explaining concepts in a way that matches their vocabulary and thinking style, and building the right mindset. Knowledge alone can only take a student so far - confidence in their own understanding is what truly helps them…

Charlotte my tutor is very patient when explaining things in a way I can understand and I feel like I'm improving.

Inside CarseldineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ruby worked through ratio questions in preparation for an upcoming test and tackled a challenging rates problem, as well as revisiting methods for solving algebraic equations.

In Year 10, Izzy practiced solving simultaneous equations and strengthened her understanding of ratios using step-by-step worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Hugo focused on addition with carrying the ten and explored simple fractions by shading areas to visually compare their sizes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hesitated to select the right formula in complex equations, saying "I'm not sure which one fits here," which slowed progress and sometimes led to circling back on earlier steps.

In Year 9, communication issues during Methods sessions meant that goals and session structure were unclear; as a result, upcoming exam prep felt rushed and disjointed.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner avoided writing out working for subtraction with borrowing—preferring to guess—which made it harder to spot errors when they arose.

For one Year 6 student, incomplete revision of time questions left gaps that reappeared in unfamiliar test scenarios.

Recent Achievements

A Carseldine tutor noticed that a Year 10 student, who previously hesitated to tackle interest rate problems alone, is now independently applying formulas and double-checking his calculations without prompting.

In Year 8 maths, one student has started asking for more challenging division questions—last week, he worked through several unaided for the first time.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who once waited for answers is now reciting tricky times tables aloud and choosing to solve addition puzzles on her own; in their last session, she picked up rounding to the nearest ten after just one example and completed her worksheet unaided.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have been very happy with Tako and feel she has really assisted our children to gain greater confidence with their math work and to work through math steps carefully, which was our key goal. We have also been impressed with the organisation of the tutoring through your services.

I spoke to you a couple of weeks ago about a tutor for my son Gabriele. You organised for Monica to come to the house and she is beyond a perfect fit. Gabriele was thrilled about the lesson, even though he was nervous at first, and can't wait until his next session, so thank you!

We are very happy with the tutor sessions to date. Kellie and Luke are working well together and we believe this has already been reflected in Luke's recent exams.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bracken Ridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aspley State High School.
