The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to help build their confidence, adapt to their unique learning style, and create a supportive space where they feel empowered to grow. Regardless of how fast they’re learning, the real success comes when a student can walk back into class, grasp the material on their own, and feel…

I think confidence is key, it’s not about rigorous testing, its about ensuring that they have confidence to solve the problem, focusing on teaching the method in different ways. ( E.g teaching a formula in maths based on step by step, visual and writing the instructions down in words) I never really had a normal study method and it really made…

It is crucial a tutor creates a comfortable space for students to ask questions and express concerns. This is because tutors must understand their students problems and thus solve them. Tutors must also maintain a student's confidence as this can enhance their attitude towards studying and therefore drive the importance of school and hard work.…

It is of utter importance that the tutor provisions the required environment for the student to be comfortable. Also, the tutor should consider the circumstances of the student and act accordingly. In my opinion, the key thing to teach a student is independence. The more I can help a student become independent in their study, the better stead they'll be in for exams, revision and further education, as a passion for learning the material by your own merit is the key for future success. If I can pass on the passion I have for maths, teach my…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. Inside Carss ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on graphing linear equations and finding the equation of a line using coordinates, practising both plotting and algebraic representation.

In Year 9, Liam worked through applications of Pythagoras' Theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems, reinforcing understanding with real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Max tackled complex addition and subtraction with larger numbers and began exploring foundational multiplication skills through step-by-step practice and targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra progress was held back by not reviewing classwork between sessions; as one tutor noted, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week."

In Year 6 maths, a student often forgot methods taught for long division and multiplication, especially when notes were misplaced or left incomplete.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, homework wasn't finished and new vocabulary wasn't practiced in sentences—leading to less confidence during spelling activities.

Inattentiveness and distraction during lessons also caused missed instructions in both primary maths and secondary English.

Recent Achievements

One Carss Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with chemistry calculations now solving titration questions accurately after just one practice session.

Another high schooler, previously anxious about timed writing tasks, recently wrote a full TEEL paragraph under time pressure and even volunteered to read it aloud—something she avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled to recall multiplication facts now completes smile-method long multiplication almost independently, correcting her own errors before being prompted and even choosing tougher questions for extra practice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blakehurst Public School.
