The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are not only concrete plans and a sufficient level of knowledge, but also empathy to understand what the student needs and their natural ability. A tutor, in my opinion, is not someone who places a high level of math practise in the hands of an art student who dislikes math. A…

Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

In my opinion the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them reach their goals. Whether that may be to help them catch up in certain subjects, to reach for top marks for their desired high school or university or in need of motivation to study in creating habits. I believe that the most important thing will be for the tutor…

I believe empowerment is one single most important aspects a tutor can bring to a student's live. I have oftentimes seen students who are lost and have almost given up on their desire to learn a new topic. In these situations, it is crucial to approach such students with a massive smile on your face and listen to their issues and expectations in…

The most important thing is NOT teaching knowledge, instead, is to give insights and inspire students. Furthermore, is not teaching student some insights on a specific problem, but in general. My goal as a tutor is not to "teach" a subject; my goal is to help the student learn how to study and find their own path so that they can do it on their own without needing a tutor in the future. My main objective is for my students to eventually no longer need me. I always encourage my students to think about what they are learning, why they are…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a love for learning. I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is help them work towards their goals. I like to build up their confidence towards their weakness and most importantly educate them on their learning style which is so important long term. Not only can they identify their learning style but they will adapt to a new revision method that’s most…

You must be adaptable, and change according to how each student acts since every individual is very distinct, this will help cater to their differences (such as learning speed). Must also remember to leave no one student behind and pick them up when they fail, help them learn from their mistakes. I am very considerate and patient, thus able to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

The most important things a student can get from a tutor is support and encouragement. There is a genuine need for understanding between students and their tutors. Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. The most important things a tutor can do for a student include: 1. Foster Understanding: A tutor’s primary role is to help the student grasp the subject matter. This means breaking down complex ideas into simpler parts, providing clear explanations, and offering different perspectives until the student understands. 2. Build Confidence: By…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

Inside ClovellyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Oliver focused on converting between decimals and fractions as well as simplifying mixed and improper fractions.

For Year 9, Ava worked through compound interest calculations and compared simple versus compound investments using value tables.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jack tackled factorisation methods in algebra along with more complex problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by applying factorisation strategies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling trigonometry found multi-step sine and cosine rule questions challenging when working alone; the tutor noted, "he needed guidance to find relevant angles," revealing a struggle to persist through complex problems without support.

In Year 11 Maths, worded income tax and commission problems proved overwhelming—questions with dense text led to missed steps and confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's written work remained difficult to follow due to unorganized note-taking in probability tasks: "notes were scattered across the page."

Not putting pen to paper during homework left gaps that made it tough for tutors to pinpoint sources of confusion.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clovelly noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid asking for help now openly requests clarification when stuck, especially with factorisation questions—an important shift from silent guessing.

In Year 11, one student recently corrected their own homework errors after carefully reviewing feedback, showing genuine independence that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who had struggled with long division earlier in the year has begun explaining solution steps out loud while working through problems and now completes them confidently without guidance. Last session, they finished an entire worksheet alone.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Catholic Primary School.
