It's really important to be patient and maintain an open mind. Every student is different andearns different topics at different rates. When I was young I put pressure on myself to learn every topic as well as my peers and at the same rate. This caused a lot of stress for me and made me feel inadequate if I wasn't able to meet my goal. I think…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is listen to them. Listen to their learning needs and acknowledge what they are challenged by. In addition, as a tutor, it is crucial to provide opportunities for the student to experience success on their attempts in order to build confidence and encourage them to keep trying. It is…

I consider the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to help them develop confidence. Students can often be reluctant to try when they are lacking in confidence. Tutors should foster a positive, can-do attitude from the beginning which encourages and enables students. It is also important that a tutor focuses on the…

In my view, the most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to inspire a lifelong love for learning. Beyond imparting knowledge and skills, a teacher's role extends to nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine enthusiasm for acquiring new information. When a teacher instills a passion for learning, they empower students to…

The most important thing is that the student feels comfortable with the tutor and that they enjoy their teaching sessions. As soon as the student is comfortable, they will be much more engaged in the task at hand. Students learn best when they enjoy the activities in class and when there is a mutual respect between the tutor and the tutee. I am…

Adapting to the student's learning style/preference (if the student is a visual learner, create pictures)/ If the student prefers a repetition of similar problem, create more problems for the students). Inside ClovellyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Oliver focused on converting between decimals and fractions as well as simplifying mixed and improper fractions.

For Year 9, Ava worked through compound interest calculations and compared simple versus compound investments using value tables.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jack tackled factorisation methods in algebra along with more complex problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by applying factorisation strategies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling trigonometry found multi-step sine and cosine rule questions challenging when working alone; the tutor noted, "he needed guidance to find relevant angles," revealing a struggle to persist through complex problems without support.

In Year 11 Maths, worded income tax and commission problems proved overwhelming—questions with dense text led to missed steps and confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's written work remained difficult to follow due to unorganized note-taking in probability tasks: "notes were scattered across the page."

Not putting pen to paper during homework left gaps that made it tough for tutors to pinpoint sources of confusion.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clovelly noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid asking for help now openly requests clarification when stuck, especially with factorisation questions—an important shift from silent guessing.

In Year 11, one student recently corrected their own homework errors after carefully reviewing feedback, showing genuine independence that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who had struggled with long division earlier in the year has begun explaining solution steps out loud while working through problems and now completes them confidently without guidance. Last session, they finished an entire worksheet alone.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

El Abed has been a brilliant tutor & I am impressed he managed to work so well with Faith when others have been unable to kept her focused. I wanted to highly recommend Abed as a tutor, I am disappointed my daughter is not interested Maths to improve further.

I would like to send a sincere thank you to your team for choosing Stefanie Palin into our home. My son, at first, was not keen to have a tutor. However, upon meeting Stefanie from the very first meeting he became keen to learn! Jared`s current maths school teacher has not been able to explain elements of trigonometry. However, after Stefanie showed him techniques he understood within minutes (I overheard Jared saying this). I have found Stefanie to be punctual, professional and very eager to help Jared learn and a lovely lady. If I hear of anyone needing a tutor I will not hesitate to inform them of your company.

Julian has improved since Armanat has come along. It's good to hear that Julian is progressing and where he needs to improve. I encourage him to do revision every week. Julian and I appreciate Amanats tutoring and his feed back, it's most helpful as is this report.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Catholic Primary School.
