In my opinion it is important to have to ability to maintain the interest of the student through out sessions. And this only does not apply during the sessions, it is crucial to make sure that the students have interest to attend the upcoming sessions. Not being able to create the interest the student has towards a tutors sessions, a session is of…

The most important thing a tutor can do is adjust their teaching methods and style based on each student. Teaching with only one style and using the same methods for everyone won't work, and if you can't adjust, your sessions becomes very robotic and boring. I like to make sure I'm personalising my lessons for each individual student and I'm…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understanding and give motivations to students especially when they are having difficulties. This is because, with empathy and encouragement, students will perform better as they are more engaged and motivated in subjects they are studying. Furthermore, a tutor should give strategies…

Being able to scaffold and break down the most complicated concepts in maths (relative to the pupil) into manageable chunks. This should be done by properly pre-assessing the student's prior knowledge and understanding of a concept. Furthermore, to always deliver classes under a student-centered teaching pattern. 01 Personalizing teaching…

Being able to adapt to the students study style, mentality and the way they operate. My greatest strength as a tutor is being able to break down hard topics into very easy and bite sized pieces. Give encouragement for their studies, give them confidence to write their exams well, help them with their inabilities. I am also capable of analysing the students'…

I believe it's important to understand a student- because only then can you get through to them and start teaching. I believe that letting a student know that I care for her/him is essential to earn her/his trust and full attention. I, myself, love studying and I will try my best to pass that…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is remove the fear around a subject. For many students, especially in maths and science, the volume of information can be overwhelming. Even when they understand a concept, they may struggle to apply it under exam conditions due to panic or poor time management. My goal is to help students…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them learn content rather than simply absorb it. Often students will try to memorise content and methods of problem solving rather than actually understanding why and how to use those methods. If a tutor can help a student adequately understand their studies, I believe the student…

Inside ClydeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Keerat focused on algebra by practising substitution and working through exercises on simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Year 9 student Mary revised linear relations, summarising key concepts for an upcoming test and drawing graphs to consolidate understanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student worked on fractions—reviewing equivalence and practising addition and subtraction with different denominators—to strengthen foundational skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed a pattern of skipping written working in algebra and probability, as noted: "she had marked as correct but hadn't actually asked if it made sense or checked the answers carefully." This led to repeated errors going unnoticed until feedback was given, resulting in lost marks on tests.

In Year 7 maths, another student completed revision only for school requirements but left some assigned practice unfinished—extra English work took priority.

During essay writing in Year 9, informal structure persisted; despite reminders, arguments weren't clearly set up, making ideas harder to follow when drafting under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A Clyde tutor noticed that a Year 9 student who used to wait for hints now brings her own questions to each session, having completed all her revision independently.

In senior maths, one student previously lost marks by skipping written steps but has started showing every part of her working, which led to fewer errors in her latest trigonometry set.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who struggled with fractions last term surprised his tutor this week by quickly adding and simplifying fractions with different denominators—he even asked for some harder extension problems at the end of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clyde Primary School.
