An example could be making an imaginary layout to help students visualize the background of the problem. Creating an imaginary scenario to help students better visualize the concept of the problem. Listening is the most important thing a tutor can do for the student. Tutors cannot understand a student's requirements and expectations until they effectively give time to the student for communicating the same. However, listening alone does not suffice. A tutor must act on these requirements and prepare custom learning plans. Being someone who…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be a reliable point of contact for a student to help address any questions or solidify any concepts the student may be having trouble with. A tutor should be able to work with a student at any point in their journey so they are able to enjoy the process of learning. My strengths are in being able to…

The most important thing is to build a relationship where there is communication, if a student finds it hard to express what their feeling with regard to their difficulties then it's my job as a tutor to make them comfortable so they can express themselves, I can't help if I don't know what's wrong, but I should create an environment in which…

I consider the fact that a tutor should provide support for the student instead of expecting top grades all the time. If I can make a student learn and like the subject and process of learning, it is the best gain that I can get from it. I think I explain things in a detailed way and I try not to explicitly give the answer. Instead, I ask the…

A tutor should not only help improve a student’s academic performance but also build their confidence and independent learning skills. It’s important to create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. As I mentioned before I think it is extremely important for tutors to give their students personalized tools to succeed in the future. The nature of 1-on-1 help should lead to finding ways to personally help students excel that large classes can't always provide. I think I bring a lot of personality to the table and can get along with the children…

As a requirement to be able to teach college physics, I had to take a course in teaching etiquette where we were required to submit a teaching statement for our final grade. The philosophy I leaned on in that statement is one I still believe to this day, and that is that the best thing a tutor can instill in a student is a seed of curiosity and…

As far as I am concerned, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence. It is crucial for a student to have confidence when confronting some difficult problems. A good tutor should not only teach them how to work out a particular question, but also build their confidence. Above all, my most powerful strength as…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, foster independent thinking, and make learning feel approachable rather than intimidating. I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to always be there for them when they have questions to ask. This is because with our presence, and once we manage to build a relationship with them, they would not feel that it is embarrassing to ask certain questions, even if they have a wrong answer in mind. In…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making them feel confident that they can and will understand the information they are struggling with and doing so in a patient and kind way. Inside CrawleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tanisha focused on trigonometric functions, specifically working through where and why she finds these challenging.

In Year 10, Chloe prepared for an upcoming Matrices test by tackling matrix operations and understanding adjacency matrices as used in different graph types.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Sofia practised addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers along with revision of multiplication tables for improved number fluency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often avoided writing out steps when tackling equations, preferring to "solve in his mind"—this led to confusion and errors, especially as problems became more complex.

In Year 11 English, another student struggled with essay planning and left arguments underdeveloped; a tutor noted, "he needs more practice in forming concise points which support his argument."

Meanwhile, in Year 6 Maths, a student was quick to use the calculator before attempting questions independently. These habits resulted in lost marks or incomplete understanding during assessments, causing visible frustration and dented confidence mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Crawley tutor recently saw Chloe, a high school student, start making her own summary notes during lessons—she'd previously relied only on verbal explanations, but now refers back to her written notes when tackling practice problems in Matrices.

In another session, Gabriel, also in high school, showed a shift by recalling formulas for area and volume from memory without prompts; earlier sessions had him frequently pausing to check or ask for reminders.

Meanwhile, Flynn (Year 6) moved from needing step-by-step help with rearranging equations to working through hypotenuse problems independently after just a few guided examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
