I believe that the tutor shouldn't be the one always in control and leading the session. Especially in early sessions, I believe the tutor should encourage the student to ask many questions of them, to grasp what they know and how they interpret different topics. Tutoring almost becomes useless if the tutor is the one constantly talking because…

I believe tutors have the potential to really change a students attitude and opinion of school, a great tutor will not only teach a subject but teach a student to enjoy the subject through sharing with the student the things that make the subject enjoyable to them, and this has the potential to totally change a students academic life. I have been…

In addition, I believe that tutoring should take a personalised approach to teach students specific academic skills which will help them achieve their own developmental…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

I think the most important thing to understand as a tutor is that different students think differently. Certain students will naturally have more or less affinity to different subjects, but also different ways of learning. Trying to figure out which way to best teach requires understanding which way students are best able to learn. For instance,…

As a tutor the best thing to do for the student is to be patient, resilient and adaptable. As each student has different learning styles you need to be observant and communicate with them as much as possible to ensure that they are optimising their learning. Furthermore, the tutor must be enthusiastic about the subject, if the student sees that…

Inside Cremorne PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Xander focused on trigonometric ratios and reviewing concepts from his recent maths exam to reinforce understanding of key topics.

In Year 7, Soraya worked through past paper questions covering algebraic factorisation and quadratic equations, with an emphasis on both the quadratic formula and completing the square.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student practiced rounding numbers as well as using visual aids to understand fractions, building confidence in core numeracy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, Charlie needed to look back at notes often for trigonometric ratios and equations not provided in exams—this slowed her down during problem-solving and risked gaps if resources weren't available.

In a Year 10 session, one student hesitated with algebraic problem solving, "deferring instead to decimals" when unsure, which meant missed opportunities to build confidence with unfamiliar techniques.

A Year 7 student sometimes left homework incomplete or prioritized easier addition problems over those involving carrying; as noted, "she completed long addition questions that did not need carrying." This led to less practice with the challenging skills required for tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cremorne Point noticed Charlie, a high school student, now tackles past exam papers almost entirely on his own—he used to rely on his notes but recently completed a whole paper independently and highlighted key points for revision.

Soraya, also in high school, demonstrated a big shift by not just solving area questions quickly but explaining her reasoning aloud without prompting; previously she hesitated to share her thought process.

In primary, Xander struggled with number sentences last week but this time answered every one correctly after extra practice, showing real improvement in accuracy and self-correction.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My daughter Jasmine has been tutored by Thomas Ban in maths for the past few years. She recently was accepted into the gifted and talented class for year 7 at Stella Maris and also received an "Outstanding" grade (highest grade possible) for Maths this year. We just wanted to thank Thomas Ban for the wonderful work he has done with Jasmine this year. We feel that she has received these grades due to Thomas tutoring. He has challenged and pushed her to work harder and improve her maths. He is also extremely professional and courteous.

Aryo is very happy with Brittany and looking forward to see her which is a good start !

I am confident that Mandeep's approach is just what Hugo and Havier need to lift their confidence and capabilities to be the best they can be.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loreto Kirribilli.
