The most important thing a tutor can do is improve the confidence of the student. The most important thing to have when walking into an exam is confidence. With great confidence comes greater problem solving skills, and greater creativity. Hence, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student more comfortable and confident…

I try my best to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Confidence is key to overcoming challenges and taking ownership of learning, and it requires patience and understanding from the tutor. It's always important to understand and relate to the student, may it be sports,…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. Once they feel safe, the students can ask any question and tutor can help them and fill their knowledge gap. My strength would be perseverance, adaptability, and emphaty. I would try and give…

Building the trust between the tutor and the student is what I believe it is most important. I felt that if I didn't build the trust with my students, then no matter how much I try, they will not improve. Therefore, building trust - looking confident and knowing what I am doing. My strength is making sure the students understand the concepts.…

To promote effective learning and bolster a student's academic progress, a tutor should consider the following actions: 1. Develop personalized teaching plans tailored to each student's learning foundations and pace. 2. Demonstrate enough patience and kindness, offering positive reinforcement and celebrating their accomplishments. 3. Ensure…

A tutor should be able to resonate and communicate well with a student firstly. Another important factor is to keep patience and listen to what the students have to say and not rush them into understanding different concepts. I believe a tutor can do for a student is to help them in any possible way. I have worked as a private tutor and I believe that there are a wide range of things a tutor can do for a student. First is to be able to teach well and not be too harsh on the student as it creates discouragement. Being able to communicate and be patient will allow the…

I think that taking the time to really understand the student's needs and being able to break down the problem into its smallest components really helps to understand exactly where the student is going wrong, and how to help them. Once I understand where the student is struggling, I can focus on practicing that concept until they are comfortable…

A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. It is essential that the student feels comfortable learning, and as a tutor I think it is our job to achieve this. Not only should the student feel relaxed while in class, they should start to gain interest in what they are learning. A tutor can help improve a student in academic success. In a classroom setting a teacher has to cover a specific amount of content within a particular time period, some students can pick up the content very easily while others may lag behind on the content. A tutor however solves this issue by understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses…

Inside DaceyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Despina worked on understanding the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes, along with practicing perimeter calculations.

Year 8 student Michael focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and applying the Pythagoras theorem to geometry problems, using visual examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophia tackled chemistry syllabus content by reviewing electron configurations (spdf notation) and exploring trends in periodicity, including atomic radius and first ionisation energy.

Recent Challenges

Frequent reliance on calculators for basic operations, such as times tables and simple addition, made it harder for the Year 9 student to build fluency in index laws ("less use of calculator and a more thorough understanding and memorisation of times tables…").

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete memorization of polyatomic ions led to slower progress during ionic equation tasks.

For a Year 5 lesson, one student jumped quickly to answers without fully writing out working or reflecting on key phrases from questions, which meant missed details when reading texts.

During a senior selective-style test, another student struggled with time management and needed extra practice under timed conditions—she finished late and felt frustrated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daceyville recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebra, began working through examples independently and now occasionally solves problems without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student showed new initiative by finishing a research task on her own, whereas before she needed frequent reminders to stay on track.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started reading out loud more confidently during comprehension activities and now actively eliminates incorrect answers instead of guessing.

Last week, a high schooler completed her science report on time for the first time this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Catholic Primary School.
